“I’ve had two years to think about this,” Judge Cynthia Brim said Friday downtown before the seven-member Illinois Courts Commission. “I have a different understanding and perspective of my condition.”
The commission is considering a complaint filed by the state’s Judicial Inquiry Board. A board attorney argued Friday that Brim remains “mentally unable to perform her duties.”
But Brim — who has been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, bipolar type and has been hospitalized multiple times for mental illness since 1993 — said she now knows she must carefully monitor her condition and keep taking medication regularly.
“You’re not expecting to be cured?” asked John Gallo, an attorney representing the inquiry board.
“I’m expecting to be maintained, as long as I take the medications prescribed,” Brim said.
In February 2013, a Cook County judge found Brim not guilty by reason of insanity in a bizarre case that involved Brim allegedly marching into the Daley Center two years ago this month, where she then was accused of shoving a sheriff’s deputy. A day earlier, Brim, by her own admission, had a meltdown while she was on the bench at the Markham courthouse — telling the gallery that police in Evergreen Park and South Holland targeted minorities.

On the other hand, I do have some concern about crazy/mentally ill
being used as a political weapon by government.
There's the obvious prohibited person
from our national gun control laws, yes, but moreover imagine what could be done if it was 'crazy' to oppose the government's policies on anything and that qualification was used to appoint judges — very little change to what we have now, yes, but it would surely cement the direction we are going and make the entire judicial branch a defacto enemy of the Constitution.
Really! You’re telling me there aren’t some not insane people who could be judges? First she is a DIM/LIB...so she is insane. Second, she is being treated for schizoaffective disorder (and is mentally ill). What could possibly go wrong if this loon returns to the bench? The only bench she belongs on is a park bench.

A group of psychiatrists go to tour an insane asylum that is reknowned for their progressive rehabilitation methods.
They begin by visiting some of the patients.
The first patient they visit is a young woman. She is practicing ballet. One of the psychiatrist asks, “What are you doing?” She replies, “I’m studying ballet so when I get out of here I can possibly join a troupe and be a productive member of society.” “Wow, that’s wonderful.”
The next person was a man reading a book with a pile of books next to him. The same question asked to him, “What are you doing?” “I’m studying biology, chemistry, etc. So I can enter medical school when I get out”
Room after room, they witnessed the incredible success and attitudes of the patients.
Until they finally reached a room the asylums director was reluctant to open. Finally, he was persuaded to open it.
Inside was a man balancing a peanut on his phallus.
The reaction of the psychiatrist, “My God what are you doing?” The man replied: “I’m Efffin nuts and I’m never getting out of here!”
I might get a touch of lightning for my joke.

Many leftist politicians who want to strip Americans of their Second Amendment rights say their position is based on concern for the safety of citizens. Somehow, they contend, forcing law-abiding gun-owners to give up their weapons will result in street gangs following suit.
According to a recently unsealed affidavit, however, one state senator in California allegedly wanted to curtail gun rights for everyone except violent gangsters.
State Sen. Leland Yee, the court documents state, was the subject of an FBI raid that led to his arrest Wednesday along with 25 other individuals. Among those arrested was Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow, a well-known Chinese gang leader.
Though Chow claimed he left his criminal behavior in the past after his 2003 release from prison, evidence indicates he was merely putting a legitimate face on his new illegal behavior. He now faces charges of money laundering and a number of conspiracy charges.
The purportedly reformed crime boss has been praised in recent years by a number of California politicos for his public appearances working with troubled kids. All the while, however, reports indicate he was still deeply involved in his prior activities.
I wonder if any one has calculated the data on this sort of thing, that is % of population vs. criminal convictions compared to elected officials criminality using the same calculation. Might be interesting.
Worse still, the judge was included on the Retention Ballot by the Democrats and the low information voters returned her to office after she was arrested.
Judges are elected in Illinois, except for vacancies being filled.
