Missouri elementary teacher Susan Kimball testified before the Missouri Senate Education Committee that she has been threatened and bullied for her opposition to Common Core.

Let me know if you would like to be on or off the ping list
I guess we are in a new paradigm.
We once thought that adding numbers together created a sum.
Now I find that a math situation calling for an increase may result in evidence.
That’s how Obamacare must work....
I wonder if this really happened, or is she is a lying sack of crap?
Unbelievable.
And why would she lie?
I have no reason to doubt her testimony.
Why is tere not a “Common Corpse” for supporters of this commie bs?
Their language is stupid but I’ve always done math the “expanded way” whenever I could, including in grad school.
It can be really helpful in tracking down where you miscounted or made a mistake in your process.
Why would you say that?
The bullying stuff was just one remark. She spent most of the 11 minutes shown describing her frustration trying to teach from this rigid lesson plan.
I did see a little flash of green behind her ear when she pushed back her suspiciously straight hair, so probably you’re right and she’s some kind of lying lizard alien creature disguised as an elementary school teacher.
In most districts, teachers who rock the boat don’t last too long. Conservative teachers who follow & abide by district policy save themselves from being blackballed. Try to quit the NEA. Seriously, the lady should go into politics, not teaching.
Do you, by chance, live in Missouri...and have a history of bullying teachers who don’t support Common Core? /s
Oops, I say a really big oops. I totally misunderstood what was said. My bad. I will try to look closer next time. That is what I get for trying to do 5 things at once. My apologies.
:^) No harm done. I’ve been there as well. I once cooked the laptop whilst typing a comment on FR on my skillet as I bathed the dog in the washing machine.

This example is a very misleading, innocuous and simple to understand example of the convoluted math lesson plan of common core that is being used to put parents at ease with the scam.
Try taking a look at a more complex problem and you can easily see how the wheels come off the concept.
Even trying to add 66 to 26 shows the cumbersome limitations to this debacle.
If you want to have even more fun, try transferring the skills developed using these Rube Goldberg arithmetic math problem solving concepts to more abstract symbolic math disciplines such as algebra or calculus.
It simply does not work because the foundational skills do not transfer.
What common core math really is a radical egalitarian tool to make all students of all intelligence and skill levels equally unable to use math as a tool to easily solve practical math problems at all but the most rudimentary of levels
LOL, my goodness, you really ARE talented. I couldn't do all that if I planned it a year in advance. :-) I was an air traffic controller, so I was accustomed to trying to do several things at once, but I can't top that.
Well, it’s safe to say that if I was an air traffic controller I would have caused the biggest multi-aircraft disaster in history. And I’m not just talking about mid-air collisions. We’re talking planes landing on golf courses, in lakes, on the Space Needle......
