Donald Rumsfeld: 'It does not take a genius' By: Tal Kopan March 25, 2014 06:13 AM EDT

Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is blasting the Obama administration’s handling of Afghanistan, saying a “trained ape” could have done a better job in diplomatic relations with the country.

“We have status of forces agreements probably with 100, 125 countries in the world,” Rumsfeld said Monday night on “On the Record with Greta van Susteren” on Fox News. “This administration, the White House and the State Department, have failed to get a status of forces agreement. A trained ape could get a status of forces agreement. It does not take a genius.”

The George W. Bush Cabinet official who presided over the beginning of the war in Afghanistan said that relations with Afghan President Hamid Karzai were good under Bush, but have gone “downhill like a toboggan” under President Barack Obama.

Rumsfeld said he understands the position Karzai is in, from badmouthing U.S. officials to recently announcing he supports Russian President Vladimir Putin on annexing the Crimean region of Ukraine.

“United States diplomacy has been so bad, so embarrassingly bad, that I’m not the least bit surprised that he felt cornered and is feeling he has to defend himself in some way or he’s not president of that country,” Rumsfeld said. “We have so mismanaged that relationship.”

Rumsfeld called out individual members of the Obama administration, including the president himself, for comments he said “trashed” the Afghan president.

Rumsfeld may have a point in the short-term. The Obama administration has bungled nearly every foreign relationship the U.S. has, and Afghanistan is no exception.

Long-term, though....I don’t think Reagan, Teddy Roosevelt, and George C. Marshall all rolled into one could make a lasting diplomatic difference in Afghanistan. The corruption, the warlordism, the double-dealing, and the general chaos of Afghanistan have very deep roots.

And, under the circumstances, there was only one way to deal with the problem:

1. Identify the tribe/faction that was the enemy -- in our case, the Taliban.

2. Set a goal of wiping them out to the last man.

3. Enlist other tribes/factions in the enterprise, paying a bounty.

4. Ruthlessly mount a campaign of extermination.

5. When complete, leave.

6. Remind the remaining tribes/factions that, should they cooperate with another enemy of the U.S., we will return and they will be subject to the Taliban's fate.

That’s almost like saying actual malice against the United States was required for Obama to do so badly. I agree.

That was the America of the olden days. We are a bunch of wusses now. Everybody has to love us and if they don't it's the conservatives’ fault.

What the hell, great idea, just bring up “ape” or “monkey” again. What a stupid intercoursing jackass! We have enough problems with the partisan media shills, we don’t need to borrow any.

Thanks Sub-Driver.

My recollection is that 0bama purposefully tanked the SOF Agreement with Iraq in a fit of personal pique.

The assumption is Obastard *wants* a status of forces agreement. I’ll bet he doesn’t.

No matter what people might say about Rummy over this, one thing is beyond reasonable dispute: Obama symbolizes nothing but disaster and richly-deserved ridicule. The only thing saving him is the bloated egos of people who voted for him.

… I think there is probably not a politician in the world who, dealing with the United States, instead of having the United States deal with him privately through private diplomacy, came out repeatedly, publicly, in an abusive, unpleasant manner.”

That is very true and 0bama does that in domestic politics too. He deals with people the way a grade school kid with issues does. It fits his community organizer background and it fits the Alinsky Rules for Radicals paradigm. Polarize your opponent and ridicule him. Diplomacy adolescent style.

I’m less concerned by Putin and Karzai than what our own government is doing to us right here and now.

Obammy’s media loves this foreign policy crap: takes the focus off the radical gay rights here, radical EPA, radical Obamacare
,radical spending, high taxes, IRS thuggery, and on and on. We’re being destroyed from WITHIN.

We’re watching our kids burn down our house while bitching about the neighbor’s grass.
