In Iowa, Ted Cruz Embraces His Religious Side
ABC News ^ | March 18, 2014 | WILL WEISSERT

Known nationally as a fiery fiscal conservative, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz channeled his pastor father and displayed his religious side Tuesday, telling an influential group of Iowa home school advocates that America was founded on Christian values Washington can't deny.

The tea party darling's declaration of his beliefs came during his fourth trip to Iowa in barely eight months — and though he has refused to comment on a possible 2016 White House run, Cruz logging so much face time in the state that kicks off presidential voting hasn't gone unnoticed.

"There is no liberty more important than religious liberty," said Cruz in his keynote speech at the Network of Iowa Christian Home Educators' annual state Capitol lobbying day. He later added: "This nation was founded by men and women fleeing religious oppression and coming here seeking the freedom to seek out our lord God almighty with all of our hearts, minds and souls, free of the government getting in the way."

Cruz's father was born in Cuba but is now a pastor in the suburbs of Dallas. His son has made no secret of his religious faith since joining the Senate last January, but rarely makes it a centerpiece as he did Tuesday.

"We have never seen an administration with such hostility toward religious faith," Cruz told a crowd of more than 500 parents and many of the children they teach at home. Some of the children scribbled on coloring sheets featuring religiously themed lessons on America's Founding Fathers.

Cruz pointed to what he said was the Internal Revenue Service under the Obama White House forcing religious groups to divulge more information for tax purposes. His sentiments were often met by calls of "Amen!" and "Praise God!"

"We don't intend to turn the Republican Party over to the traitors in the battle just ended. Turning the Party over to the so-called moderates wouldn’t make any sense at all." -- President Ronald Reagan

A true conservative pushing all the right buttons seems such a pleasant daydream.

Cruz needs to be more precise. This must be rephrased as follows.

“We have never seen an administration with such hostility toward CHRISTIAN faith.”

Moslems, Pagans, atheists, Hindus, even Jews, they can celebrate their holidays in public schools and town meetings.

Only Christians are excluded.

” But Cruz’s brand of social conservatism may excite much of the party’s base more easily than Paul’s Libertarian ideals.”

Even ABC admits Runt Paul is a Libtardian, something his cheerleaders here fail to grasp.

Cruz is by far the best potential candidate for 2016.

His debating skills are pivotal to encountering an intellectual culture far more dangerous than any particular candidate it selects.

His stand on everything from foreign policy to fiscal issues to social issues is spot on with conservatism.

I am intrigued at the libertarian streak at FR that tries to re-rationalize Rand Paul’s disastrous foreign policy instincts.

This is why Ted Cruz is, and as near as I can tell always will be, preferable to Rand Paul.

Cruz gets what the social conservative base needs in a conservative candidate and what it non-negotiably must have. Paul does not.

Ted Cruz has clearly demonstrated that he understands and articulates the core principles and beliefs of this nations founding fathers and documents. Cruz will be one of only a very few politicians around today that I will actually contribute some money to if he chooses to run for president in 2016. He is clearly worth it.

Nor its implications on the conservative-right voter base.

Good for him! Faith is important!

The article, however, was condescending I thought.

The article, however, was condescending...

ABC condescend?
Of course ABC is anti-christian, anti-conservative, anti-military, anti-patriarcy, anti-traditional family, anti-traditional America; because they are pro: liberal, feminist, homosexual, abortion, communism, atheism, big brother- government and nanny-state totalitarianism.

ABC is attempting to kill Ted Cruz's chances while convincing the GOPe to abandon principles of righteous governance. But they cannot do it too openly or audaciously; hence the condescending coverage.

He’s a “firebrand”
talking to “homeschoolers”
“amens” “praise God”
“stranglehold on republican agenda”
They are all to happy to just frame him as a religious zealot who is racist and homophobic and an obstructionist, add anti union and against the advancement of all the so called “progress” of the current regime.

Oh yeah! Its just the beginning of their attack.
All so predictable.but, what I see in Cruz is an ability to combat against these tactics.

He seems to have an ability to articulate to the heart of matters, and shed off the attempts by the enemy to place the desired perceptions they wish to place on him better than most.
The whole key is how he can manipulate the media to his needs, because they are the real enemy against truth in the land today.

He is going to get a lot of attention, and his presidental campaign has already begun.

OH NO! Talking to homeschoolers... Those are the radically educated kids who can spell, do math and who actually read the constitution and understand it. Some of them study the Bible and shoot guns. Well at least my homeschooled children do. (Except the spelling part - they are what we call creative spellers. I think it is genetic.)
