A controversial candidate won the GOP nomination in the March Primary for the 9th Congressional District seat.
Susan Atanus received a total of 12,447 votes after all 338 precincts in Cook County reported in. The other GOP candidate, David Earl Williams III, received 12,012 votes.

Atanus has repeatedly gone on record saying God controls the weather and has put tornadoes and diseases such as autism and dementia on earth in response to gay rights and legalized abortions.
Comments like these led GOP party leaders, like Chairman of the Illinois Republican Party Jack Dorgan, to say she had no place on the ballot as a Republican.
Bad news for the RINOs. A true Christian/conservative wins a primary in Illinois.
is she or is this the crooked Dems throwing the race to a nut bag?
The Dem is safe anyway. This is just a nice ‘screw you’ the establishment, who ensured Durbin a landslide victory against Oberdouche.
I had no idea that Todd Akin had a twin sister.
She is being demonized by the media and the GOP-e. But she is a true Tea Party constitutionalist.
She may be a longshot, but with national attention she could win.
i’d like to read what she actually said. God doesn’t make it rain on bad people anymore (Noah, Noah, fuba fuba fuba fuba. ) or give cancer to people because they are homosexuals or disrespected their parents. i wish it was that easy. then only good people wold be floating around and obama wouldn’t president.
I am keeping an open mind
need a better photo or the LIV’s are going to go nuts!
The Republican Party leadership in Illinois failed to recruit an endorsed candidate in the 9th District. This individual candidate qualified for the primary by herself.
It seems hypocritical for the lazy G.O.P. brass to criticize her now since they were going to concede the district to the Democratic incumbent. It is interesting to see Atanus slandered since the Democrat (Jan Schakowsky) is a lunatic fringe Marxist in her own right.
She’s right....but it’s not exactly a campaign platform....
