Is Turkey relying on NATO to get them out of this situation?

In that case, Go Russia, at least they would restore Constantinople.

Obama must have called his brothers in Turkey and said “Get some of this heat off me!”

What a freakin’ circus! Cringe-worthy.

Given the current government of Turkey, go Vlad, and widen the channel while you are at it.

I think I got this right. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Kinda dumb....Russia exports oil to Europe through the straits.

What will Turkey do if all the Russian tourists stop coming?

Turkey could mine the striates. Intelligent mines can be set to go off on only certain ships. Why Turkey would want to further annoy Russia is beyond me.

Incidentally, Russia has been carrying on a clandestine war inside Turkey for years. They bring in a hit man, then kill a few Islamists who are using Turkey as a base to target Russian interests. To my knowledge Turkey has never caught a hit man. It’s likely the hitter is out of the country by the time the body is discovered. Very efficient, the FSB.

Ok, so if they do that to the Bosphorus, what if the Russian ally of Iran then closes the Strait of Hormuz? By any measure if Turkey can do it, why can`t Iran? And if the Russians back them up with naval and air power?

These people need to back off, Ukraine IS NOT worth WWIII!

That didn’t take long.

Turkey knows what Russia’s long range goals are (and have been for hundreds of years). To retake Constantinople.

No doubt Obama told the Turkish leader that the US has his back on this. Good luck with that.

I read once that Obama and Erdogan have a “special relationship”. That Obama has spoken with him on the phone far more times than any other world leader.

No doubt Obama’s superior intelligence and grasp of world affairs tells him Turkey is the key to solving the problems of Eastern Europe and the Middle East, straddling the two cultures as it does. Or so he thinks.

The results speak for themselves.

So, should we back the Turks because they are not Russians, or back the Russians because they are not Turks?

Turkey threatens Russia

Like a chihuahua snarling and snapping at a rottweiler and then retreating behind it's master.

If I were Russia, I’d seize Turkey’s land on both sides of the Bosporus in response. And reopen the Haggia Sophia as an Orthodox church, now that Turkey has decided to end its status as a tourist attraction and museum and make it into a mosque.

Erdogan has a poor sense of history. It has been the dream of every Russian Tsar to capture Constantinople, and control the Bosphorus and the Dardenelles.

Erdogan teasing the bear is pretty much a bad idea.
