"The threat to close the Bosphorus to Russia comes from a report by Hvylya, citing a Turkish diplomatic source. According to the source, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan yesterday spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the phone and warned of the consequences for conflict with Ukraine. Is Turkey relying on NATO to get them out of this situation?

In that case, Go Russia, at least they would restore Constantinople.

Obama must have called his brothers in Turkey and said “Get some of this heat off me!”

What a freakin’ circus! Cringe-worthy.

Given the current government of Turkey, go Vlad, and widen the channel while you are at it.

Russia’s forfeiting of Turkey’s permission to transit the Bosporus Straits practically negates the value of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, Russia’s only warm water naval port and commercial seaport, and devastates the Crimea’s merchant marine economy.

I think I got this right. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Kinda dumb....Russia exports oil to Europe through the straits.

What will Turkey do if all the Russian tourists stop coming?

Turkey could mine the striates. Intelligent mines can be set to go off on only certain ships. Why Turkey would want to further annoy Russia is beyond me.

Incidentally, Russia has been carrying on a clandestine war inside Turkey for years. They bring in a hit man, then kill a few Islamists who are using Turkey as a base to target Russian interests. To my knowledge Turkey has never caught a hit man. It’s likely the hitter is out of the country by the time the body is discovered. Very efficient, the FSB.

Ok, so if they do that to the Bosphorus, what if the Russian ally of Iran then closes the Strait of Hormuz? By any measure if Turkey can do it, why can`t Iran? And if the Russians back them up with naval and air power?

These people need to back off, Ukraine IS NOT worth WWIII!

No way Turkey wants Russia in control the entire northern half of the Black Sea. Putin has troops in Kherson and seems to be thinking about taking everything from Crimea to Moldova.

Yes, if I were Putin I’d be more concerned about this than the G8 nonsense.

By any measure if Turkey can do it, why can`t Iran?

Russia has invaded a neighbor with a fifth column of soldiers with no insignia. Planted landmines, naval blockaded, etc., etc. Then annexed their neighbor. All war crimes there.

Get back to me when Iran invades Iraq and does that.

That didn’t take long.

Turkey knows what Russia’s long range goals are (and have been for hundreds of years). To retake Constantinople.
