Regarding our foreign policy, I think the first President had the right idea and is more in keeping with our nation's stated beliefs:

"I have always given it as my decided opinion that no nation has a right to intermeddle in the internal concerns of another;
that every one has a right to form and adopt whatever government they liked best to live under themselves;
and that if this country could, consistently with its engagements, maintain a strict neutrality and thereby preserve peace,
it was bound to do so by motives of policy, interest, and every other consideration."
--George Washington, from Letter to James Monroe, August 25,1796

-------------

"The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is, in extending our commercial relations to have with them as little political connection as possible.
So far as we have already formed engagements let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith.
Here let us stop."
-- George Washington, farewell address, 1796

I was hoping that Rand Paul had inherited enough of his father's views on global bullying to stay out of situations such as this. He was already questionalble about the invasion of the US, but has tempered his statements.

We need someone with the wisdom and experience of Eisenhower, who warned us about the military industrial complex. Another thing that person needs is an educational background that included a historical study of the best uses of US military strength.

What am I saying? Even our faves don't have the wisdom or knowledge to be making decisions about international situations that could lead to war. Maybe they should ask to put our troops on our southern border and then just SHUT UP.

RE: So far as we have already formed engagements let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith.

And that my friend, is the problem -— we have ALREADY formed so many engagements, singed so many defense treaties that we are duty bound to protect them with perfect good faith ( even when we don’t have enough resources to do so ).

Maybe it’s time to revisit them all...

Agreed. We would be better being the good neighbor we would want to have, instead of being the busy body HOA president no one can stand.

Another establishment hack outfit helping to make sure hillary gets back into the white house. You guys might not like what was once the libertarian wing of the republican party, but you’re going to keep losing without them.

*you’re Wish there was an edit button.

Almost all of us adjust for those minor unedited imperfections and mispellings, they don't usually need to be mentioned in a second post.

Lets have a free election, with Russian troops standing outside the polling station.

How do you say Anchluss in Russian?

While I believe that the Crimea should be returned to Russia or become independent if that’s what its population wants (and that getting rid of it would be good for Ukrainian nationalists who otherwise might get outvoted in Ukraine due to Crimean votes), it is ridiculous that the issue be decided by a flash referendum held while the area is occupied by Russian troops. Putin may end up taking the Crimea, but had he stayed away he would have gotten, within a few months, the Crimea and parts of eastern Ukraine that would have voted to secede to form an independent country, without any sanctions or other grief.
