Ruling pending after immigration hearing for Cinthya Garcia-Cisneros, convicted in Forest Grove fatal crash

A decision remains to be made in immigration court for Cinthya Garcia-Cisneros, the driver convicted of felony hit-and-run in the Oct. 20 crash that killed two young Forest Grove stepsisters.

Garcia-Cisneros, 19, attended a bond hearing Wednesday morning, March 5 at the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma. The ruling will determine whether she must remain in custody while her immigration case is pending. She was sentenced in January to three years of probation and 250 hours of community service.

At Garcia-Cisneros' sentencing, immigration attorney Courtney Carter said a bond could cost up to $20,000. Carter has not returned calls for comment.Bridget Cooke, executive director of the nonprofit Adelante Mujeres, attended the hearing with 16 other supporters, family and friends, including four of Garcia-Cisneros' former teachers and Nelson Castro, the Hispanic pastor at Sonrise Church in Hillsboro. "It would benefit the whole community for Cinthya to have an opportunity to complete her sentence," Cooke said. "Consequently, it was important to show the judge that there is...real concern for her well-being and a real interest in seeing the process go forward."

Adelante Mujeres leaders created an online fundraiser Jan. 27, which had garnered $3,409 toward a $5,000 goal with 81 donors as of 1 p.m. Monday. The Forest Grove nonprofit provides education and support services for low-income Latinas and their families.

They also set up a bank account in November to help Garcia-Cisneros' family, which had around $1,500 in donations last week. Cooke said all the money will go toward a bond, if Garcia-Cisneros is released, or other legal fees her family has incurred.

If this was an American citizen who did this you can be sure none of us would get three years of probation and 250 hours of community service..The story seems more geared towards this...Garcia-Cisneros, brought to the United States as a young child, had temporary permission to be in the country under the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. When it comes to American families,the illegals can careless and want to ram down our throats their sob stories and why their lives are more important than any Americans lives.That pastor sure does not have much to say about the America kids permanently separated from their parents.You would think the poor Garcia-Cisneros,is the Injured Victim.....
