Watch out for the NRA to backstab on this. (I don't trust them, after all what would they use to get more donors/memberships if there wasn't a threat to the 2nd amendment? — It's why, to my knowledge, they've never opposed GCA or NFA.)

You are also skeptical of the NRA,,,, I'm glad I'm NOT the only one. Some of it's past performances, one being a compromise that I'm confident your aware of, have led me feel the same way. I dropped them about 15 years ago and haven't returned. When you pay an entity you expect 101% from it. Especially a Constitutional issue. New Jersey lawmakers are, with-out a doubt, another thorn in our a$$e$. Hang m high!!!!

IN LIBERTY!!!!

Gay strategy comes back to haunt liberals. We have two conflicting admendments to the USC. The 10th (powers not given to fed goes to state) vs 14th (civil rights protection uniform across the nation). Gays have been able to expoit the logic of the 14th, even though the SCOTUS left the definition to the states on gay marriage. The 2nd Amendment was declared a civil right. If gays can use the 14th to claim equal treatment and status in all states, then the same logic can be applied to the 2nd Admendment.

SCOTUS has been known to speak with a forked tongue on more than one occasion.

The "simple" — and traditional — solution is this: ignore the 10th Amendment.

By virtue of my trade I'm part of several gun/bulletsmithing associations. Due to some run-ins with a few individuals that I still prefer to respect (though some I can't), I've elected to stay below the radar for awhile. The groups I stay close to are fellow cat. 3 FFL holders and American gun owners. Just follow your heart my friend,,,, we have a rocky road ahead of us.

If an incumbent blue dog Democrat who lost in 2010 or 2012 runs for office again does the NRA endorse them against a Republican who only entered office in 2013?

I think they've fallen into the same mindset that the Republican party has: that to address the problems is to relinquish power/comfort — you mention 101% being what you expect to get back, I'd be content with even 50% (happy with 70%). One of the reasons I'm rather jaded against them is because I've brought to their attention slam-dunk legal cases* (state-level) and been brushed off with the excuse we don't get involved in state matters.

* South Dakota has the following in their Constitution: A 6, § 24 — Right to bear arms. The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the state shall not be denied., yet they also have statutes denying such in "courts" where 'court' is defined [essentially] as any State Building. / The Constitution of New Mexico (A 1, § 6)prohibits any law "abridg[ing] the right of the citizen to keep and bear arms for security and defense", yet there are statutes prohibiting firearms on school grounds (including universities) and it is common for courthouses to post "no weapons, violators will be prosecuted" signs.

I have no idea; at this point I think that the Republican/Democrat dichotomy is a false-dichotomy. -- The Republican party puts no resistance against the Democrat policies, even when there is ample grounds (and support) to do so. (e.g. Fast and Furious, NSA domestic spying, IRS Political Targeting, Benghazi, Obamacare, etc.)

They do not fight it because they agree with it.

IN THE GRIM DARKNESS OF THE FAR FUTURE THERE IS ONLY GOVERNMENT.
