Snowden: Wasted Surveillance Resources May Have Stopped Boston Bombing
ABC News ^ | March 10, 2014 | By Lee Ferran

National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden said today that rather than helping combat terrorism, the U.S. government’s massive surveillance programs have led to “tremendous intelligence failures” and may have contributed to allowing the deadly Boston Marathon bombing to have taken place.

“We’re monitoring everybody’s communications, instead of suspects’ communications,” Snowden said during a live video conference at Austin’s popular South by Southwest festival. “That lack of focus has caused us to miss leads that we should’ve had. Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the Boston bombers, the Russians had warned us about him… And if we hadn’t spent so much on mass surveillance, if we had followed the traditional models, we might’ve caught him.”

NSA had Bin Laden’s phone tapped for three years prior to 9/11.

The idiots don’t need more surveillance, they can’t handle what they had before.

Unfortunately, Snowden has assumed the wrong thing - that the massive U.S. surveillance network is intended to catch terrorists.

Our government is collecting our information so they have control over us. It has nothing to do with protecting us.

Apparently Ed doesn’t understand that the Obama administration really only considers Tea Party and conservatives terrorists.

You know, the only real threat to commies are the anti-commies.

"instead of suspects communications"

But, but, but, that might be considered "racial profiling".

Plus, if we didn't bug everybody, it wouldn't allow corrupt politicians and government employees the opportunity to obtain an edge on opponents, or gain insider trading information...

I don’t know if this guy is a hero or a zero.

He sucks for singing on his brothers but he is right that you just can’t monitor every conversation on the planet at the same time.

You probably can record it all, but you cannot monitor it all in real time.

It scares me that they are recording everything for future reference when they get a bug up their ass and put you on the radar.

Has Obama or Holden ever taken a polygraph in their lives?

It bothers me that these men control us.

"..weeks after the bombing that the FBI concluded there was little the Bureau could have done to prevent the attacks."

Yeah, it turns out that we HAVE to shoot the Labrador Retrievers we come across. Our hands are tied; there is nothing we can do.

You know what’s so great out our massively expensive NSA spying program?

That they so quickly caught all the comms of the parties responsible for the disappearance of a Malaysian airliner!

If we didn’t have the NSA, THAT terrible thing could have happened!

That, or u could have a bad bombing in Boston at a really public event, right?

Stop the Boston bombing?

The objective of the Boston bombing was to reinforce the “spontaneous” lie they tried to concoct with Benghazi.

The same thing was done with the Kenya mall attack.

Tried to make it appear as if the terrorist picked up on something Obama said and did then “spontaneously” carried out the attack.

It’s like how after the 7/7 bombing in London, the UK’s extensive network of surveillance cameras had captured grainy footage of the terrorists getting on buses/trains, going to London, getting off buses/trains, getting on other buses and trains and then blowing them up. This was touted a justification for having cameras everywhere, as if the bombings had been stopped. They never caught anyone else for the bombing even though the authorities think there was a larger network involved.
