Missing plane similar to Lockerbie bomb tragedy: official
NY Post ^

Investigators suspect a vanished Malaysian airliner may have been blown out of the sky — just like the jumbo jet that rained deadly wreckage onto Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988.

As Vietnam reported the possible sighting of an aircraft door from the missing plane, a senior official involved in the probe of its disappearance said the evidence so far “appears to indicate that the aircraft is likely to have disintegrated at around 35,000 feet,” Reuters reported.

Asked if that suggested a bomb blew up the Boeing 777, the source said there was no evidence yet of foul play, but noted the closest parallels to the plane’s disappearance early Saturday over the South China Sea were the 1980s bombings of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie and Air India Flight 182 off the coast of Ireland.

Although the source added that Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, could have broken apart due to mechanical failure, Malaysian officials have not ruled out a hijacking.

How long before “stuff” starts to float by itself? I would have thought it would already have happened.

Why doesn’t the person responsible hand himself over to Scotland then? All he has to do after he is convicted is say he has cancer and they will let him go.

Just because the local investigators have not ruled out terrorism does not mean our US DHS has not. First thing this morning on NBC5 local news informed us that our idiots in Washington have already decided that terrorism was not involved. Really? How the hell did they determin that? Idiots.....

Difference being, it is now going on 3 days with no sight of debris. Seems kind of bizarre, unless they are looking int he wrong place.

Setting aside for a moment the issue of the loss of innocent passengers’ lives, I think it preferable for the plane to have crashed than for it to have been hijacked and taken somewhere by terrorits.

If terrorists actually manage to hi-jack a large jet-liner and land it intact in terrorist-friendly territory, then we'll have a very serious problem on our hands. A 777 can be converted in to one seriously large ‘dirty’ bomb - or, plain old bomb.

It'd certainly be nice to learn that the craft had made an emergency landing somewhere and that everyone is safe, but I'm afraid it is too late for that.

Exactly. I was wondering if perhaps the plane disintegrated in a completely different area. It seems like there have been so many conflicting reports about when they actually lost contact that the searchers might not even be in the right place. Also, could a bomb have blown it to bits so much that one would not find pieces large enough to be seen in the water?

...and it IS easy to look in the wrong place when you’re trying to find something as small as an airliner in something as large as an ocean.

No signs of debris - today is Monday and this AC was lost on Friday?

Lack of debris is the most important finding - it speaks to the possibility that this AC did not break-up or explode at 35000. Where did it go? Did it do a water "landing" intact and sink? Did it dive down to water level and sneak under the radar into VNam?

Lack of debris is the dog that did not bark. How many AC have been tasked with combing this relatively small area? Until debris/crashsite are found this is a James Bond/Lost mystery.

It certainly reinforces what we all know already about who controls the media. They have been given their talking points for the day and blindly repeat them without question.

How are the victims cells phones able to ring while blown up or at the bottom of the ocean?

The authorities certainly have the track of the plane up until it disappeared, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to follow that path for a search.

And, it should be easy to detect the signals from the black boxes in rather shallow water.

However, the reports were that the plane had been in the air for ~2 hours, which would have taken it well past the Gulf of Thailand. Incomplete/conflicting data.

No terrorism because the war on terror no longer exists. If they say it isn’t true it isn’t try.....got it?

I’d say that Air India Flight 182 was the only parallel. Pretty obvious in short order what happened at Lockerbie.

Please elaborate on the cell phones ringing. I've read nothing about that.

Though terrorism comes to mind, assassination also does. Usually terrorists come forward and claim responsibilty within a few days to make a political statement. As far as I know, we haven’t heard anything from anyone yet. The latter scenario makes me wonder if there was a whistleblower on board or if a major competitor removed their competition.
