The NRA is a grassroots SINGLE ISSUE advocacy group. They do not represent only conservatives, they represent all gunowners. They support all incumbents with a pro gun record, Democrat, Republican or RINO. They support incumbents over challengers when both have a pro gun record, because incumbents generally win. The reason the NRA has clout with legislatures is they know they have influence on swing voters who care about gun rights. If they started picking candidates based on who is most conservative they would be just another conservative organization with no influence on elections, and no clout.
And no, they did not endorse Harry Reid in his last election, so quit repeating that tired old lie.
Finally I would brag about not being a member anymore. That basically means you gave up. The NRA is a democratic grass roots organization. If you don't like the leadership, start attending your local NRA Members Council meetings, and push for candidates to the NRA board who agree with you.
Well said. I am sick of the idiots repeating the ignorance.
The NRA leadership has done some less than ideal things in my book. I will voice my displeasure via my ballot.
—unfortunately, there are many out there who don't realize that the NRA has to operate in the real world of Congress, Washington ,DC and an almost universally hostile media-—not some fantasy world where we sturdy yeomen hold off an invading U.N.army at the bank of the Mississippi-—
