The other guy who won in a walk, of course, is the top of the ticket, Greg Abbott for Governor, a shoo-in even before Tom Pauken bowed out in December. Given the latest poll shows him double-digits ahead of Abortion Bar um, Wendy Davis, he must be feeling good right now.
The conservative incumbent justices defeated the trial-lawyer-sponsored challengers handily.
And the last piece of good news. State Sen Donna Campbell (TX-25), conservative and a Tea Party type that the establishment wanted to take down, easily defeated a two-headed challenge and won without having to go into a runoff.
Its also true that other incumbents aside from Cornyn, like Lamar Smith, Pete Sessions and Joe Strauss survived their underfunded challengers, BUT conservative challengers DID win down-ballot:
- Rinaldi defeats Ratliff (of the Ratliff lobbying family) - Tinderholt defeats Diane Patrick (pal of educrat lobby) - White defeats Sheffield (Straus ally gets the boot)
http://kdhnews.com/centerforpolitics/news/sheffield-s-support-of-straus-draws-tea-party-opposition/article_102ede60-9c42-11e3-9434-001a4bcf6878.html - and a biggie, Huffines defeats Corona in a State Senate race. Corona was one of the most liberal/moderate of Republicans. The Senate with one more Republican, a few more conservatives and Dan Patrick leading it, will not be the weak sister its been in the past.
These are all conservative wins. So despite several of my preferred candidates not winning, Im pleased with the outcome overall. Conservatives are in a position, should the top vote getters win their respective runoffs, to have a strong set of conservatives in most / all statewide offices. These are the candidates to support in the runoff, already winning a lot of conservative organization endorsements and support: Lt Gov Dan Patrick
AG Ken Paxton
Comptroller Glen Hagar
Ag Commissioner Sid Miller
Railroad Commissioner Wayne Christian
Good on ya Texas...
Show the rest of the country how it’s done!!!
I supported the judges trying to overthrow the tort reform. its unconstitutional as hell and will put many Americans at risk. The stories of negligence are piling up and there is not a dang thang you can do...no lawyer will take a medmal case now. Stop and think! How this will evolve when OCARE kicks in and the FEDS enact tort reform...gee fun huh? Do you have a vet you can trust?
Joe Straus, although he retained his seat, is not such a shoe-in to retain his Speakership. A number of his supporters retired and a further four more got primaried, at least partly on the basis of their support for him. His Speakership depended on votes from the ‘Rat caucus and a close coterie of GOP quislings. After they see what happened to his closest allies, he may not be able to recruit enough GOPers this time to hold back a strong challenge. Tea Partier Scott Turner has filed to challenge but he’s a relative newb and may not have enough gravitas for the old dogs to follow him.
I guess this is another way of saying the American people need to take back the reigns of THEIR government and THEIR country. In a sense, Congress is doing what the American people have done: abdicated their ownership in managing a limited and accountable government.
Why has no one mentioned Konni Burton, a Constitutional Conservative, who captured 44% of the vote in Senate District 10. There will be a run-off against Mark Shelton who took a distant 34%.
Konni will be successful on May 27. She has been endorsed by Ted Cruz.
Not a good night with Cornyn winning.
