Were you hit by a falling kayak? Injured while baking, vacuuming or spending too much time in a deep freeze? Encountered a lamppost for the second time? Were you bitten by a turkey? Never fear, the ICD-10 is here.

Starting this October, your doctor will be required to record precisely whether you were bitten or struck by a parrot, macaw, chicken, turkey, or any "other psittacines," or encountered any one of 140,000 other specific medical conditions, injuries or diseases.

Hope they didn't forget to include the weight of the hammer, was the bat a signature model, where the item was manufactured, was it domestic or imported. My dermo told me that with the new rules and regs, time with each patient would "necessarily" be reduced. Time spent on new paperwork (cdc/hhs data gathering) would "necessarily skyrocket". Yeah, that sounds like an improvement in health care. Less care, mo' money.

The next step is for the government idiots to require you bring in a video of what happened to you...as well as a notarized statement that it is true.

IIRC, Kaiser Permanente already limits doctor visits to something like 10-20 minutes. It can't get much shorter than that.

No video. No treat-y. LOL! And you thought the wait time at the ER was bad now. Simple trick. Call and claim chest pains and the wahmbulance delivery goes to the head of the line. Payin’ for the whambulance? They won’t have too. The gub-mint will reimburse them. With our money.

These outrageous regulations were one of the reasons that government officials didn’t want to participate in ObamaCare. Can you imagine having a medical emergency some weekend and the weekend fill-in medical person in the ER is sitting there thumbing through the 155,000 codes online trying to find which one they should enter? That “golden hour” for care will be long gone....and so will the patient.

It sounds funny, but is deadly serious. The wrong code can cost thousands of dollars in reimbursement and literally end the doc in court, jail or heavily fined. Not only is it totally ridiculous, but wastes time that could be spent caring for patients, costs untold millions in labor expenses, and is a giant game of russian roulette. Get the government out of my face.

"These cumbersome new administrative responsibilities will take away from the time doctors can spend with their patients."

That isn't true. However, it could very well be more expenses to the physician's office/billing in order to comply with it. For example, right now a small office may have one or two people that handle their billing. With this, they'll probably have to hire another employee or two to keep up with the additional workload.(that's job creation - I suppose LOL) The ICD-9s are bad enough! If there are ANY errors with Coding Medicare/Medicaid will NOT pay, and they won't tell them why. They'll just reject it(sometimes months later), so it's very important to get it right the first time.

This is yet another expensive burden on the physician's practice that will go uncompensated. They will have to EAT these costs, as I'm sure the already terrible reimbursement rates will not be increasing accordingly. (they already lose money on Medicare/Medicaid)
