This sounds a lot like Southern speak akin to "Well, bless your heart." It is a genteel response to someone who is abhorrent.
Sorry, but you have jumped the shark in your Sessions disqualification with the example provided. Better luck next time.

I pretty much agree with your analysis. This “I know you’re going to
do a good job” routine is a tool used by all politicians even when
they are sure the putz in question will likely be a failure. This
faux gesture of support gives the politician some cred when it
is time to turn the guy out to pasture. The best witness for the
prosecution is a friend of the defendent.
Bump....bump....bump....bump.....and bump
Newfreep....its customary here when proven to have put foot in mouth with as egregious a false claim as yours you come back and fess up and let us pick on you....lord knows I’ve made my fair share of faux pas here
BTW....OP.....has some crow waiting too
Concensus here looks like JEFF Sessions is OK...

Political etiquette with a South’n ta’wang.
Jeff Sessions is great. He’s been my distant, adopted Senator over the years.
Sessions was the third man standing next to Lee and Cruz back in September when Obama and Reid shutdown the govt.
