Vladimir Putin is ignoring him. Sarah Palin is bragging about outsmarting him.
The Cold War-style crisis in the Ukraine is exposing President Obamas lack of foreign policy respect to new lows. Hours after Obamas toothless threat to Putin to stay out, Russias military moved in uncontested.
So what was Obamas response to this bold show of military force by Putin? He made a phone call to the Russian leader and pulled out of planning meetings for the next G-8 summit in Sochi.
No, not the actual summit. Just the planning meetings.
Wow, Putin must be shaking in his shoe lifts. The Russian president, on the heels of the successful Sochi Olympics, is now maneuvering his military forces into Crimea virtually unchallenged. While Obama was holding a press conference to warn Russia there will be costs to intervention in the Ukraine, Putin was getting his rubber stamp Parliament to approve military action.
Turns out there were no costs. Whats next? Threatening to revoke Russias gold medals?
Things are so bad for Obamas foreign policy cred that Palin is taking to Facebook to remind the world that she was mocked for saying during the 2008 campaign that Russia might invade Ukraine. Now Palin is gloating about her diplomatic foresight, while the Obama administration is scrambling to prevent Russia from invading the rest of the Ukraine.
The next few days and weeks will be a severe test for the president. Obama has been a few steps behind during this latest version of a Cold War standoff, and the world is looking for some kind of strong response to Putins show of muscle.
The presidents critics could see this one coming. In an interview with Boston Herald Radio last week, former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton mocked Obamas initial call for Russia to stay out of the Ukraine crisis.
Bolton accurately predicted it was naive of Obama to think that Russia would stand down in a region where it had major economic and military interests.
Russias going to be involved you can just count on it, Bolton said. The question is whether well be involved.
The question is what will Obama do? Just write off Ukraine and hope Russia doesnt launch a total invasion?
Bolton said this latest crisis is the result of Obama showing little interest in re-establishing U.S. foreign policy muscle in hot spots like Ukraine and Syria. Now may be the time for Obama to call Putins bluff, and show he is paying attention.
what credibility?
Obama needs to go to the Crimea and start organizing the community. Maybe that will keep him busy for a few years.
I don’t believe the US should bet involved in this conflict. But, I am enjoying the hell out of watching Obama display his incompetence to the world.
I blame Clinton for this, back when the negotiated the Budapest Agreement, in 1994, it was sheer stupidity to believe the Russians weren’t going to eventually claim Crimea...Yeltsin was a drunk who didn’t care. They merely kicked the can down the road, until eventually the situation was going to blow up, well, now here we are.
Obama has pretty much backed himself in to a corner. He has to do something or forfeit the 2014 and 2016 elections to the Republicans because he has shown that Democrats are wimps and can not be trusted with foreign policy
The question is; will he do something stupid?
My guess is; Yes. Something really stupid.
I agree with everything you just said.
The best we can hope for out of this President in crisis challenges is that he resolves to do something feeble, uninspired, and bland then quickly moves on to something else, like another golf vacation.
We should thank our lucky stars that he rarely disappoints in these circumstances.
I think they made a misprint because the only thing he has shown regarding foreign policy is ineptibility.
Never let a good crisis go to waste
I’d like to hear that phone call between Vlad and Barry.
Obama has made the US the analog of the adolescent bully that though formidable looking is a coward that never follows through on those threats.
Eventually the other kids on the block notice that the bully never actually pushes things to the point of actual physical violence and the bully is ignored and becomes a laughing stock.
Obama is truly the second coming of Jimmy Carter. We can only hope that he is followed by the second coming of Ronald Reagan.
I just wish more Americans were willing to stand up for freedom and deserved that second coming. It must be hard to stand up and lead when your family is mercilessly attacked by evil and so many stay out of it to keep their heads down.
Carter was stupid and incompetent, but not a traitor.
Obama is all three, plus a marxist who wants America to be downgraded to a second rate nation.
I like the saying “In God We Trust” because you know you can’t trust Obama, Hagel, Dempsey, Kerry, Rice, Powers or Clinton. That is all we have left right now.
Obama can proudly claim, “YES IT DID”.
He’s way above his pay grade. The lame stream media is going down with him.
>”Sarah Palin is bragging about outsmarting him”<
Haven’t heard that. Must be another Liberal delusion.
Isn’t affirmative action wonderful?
Obama should not call Putin’s bluff because Obama would bungle whatever he does and make a bad situation deadly.
Obama is useless and the USA is ruined.
