I suspect the school gets some of the $20k or so NY spends on each pupil.
Well that is outrageous. I pay 7,500 each for two high school kids, 3300 for the 7th grader and 3500 for the Kindergardener. This is outrageous that they spend 20 grand on each kid for an education that is not even adequate. Make it like a Catholic School where the parents can afford the tuition.
Charter schools are still public schools insofar as their funding is concerned; they get an attendance-based allocation from the State for every warm butt that sits in a desk daily.
Once you possess that piece of information you recognize other school district-instigated “community” initiatives geared toward capturing as much of that money as possible: daytime curfew ordinances aimed at getting truants into the classrooms are a prime example. You also have a new awareness of why non-public educational options are so often regarded as a threat to institutions of public education.
As the saying goes, “Follow the money.”
