A House committee is planning a showdown next week with a former Internal Revenue Service official who declined to answer questions last year about agency targeting of tea-party groups.
The former official, Lois Lerner, appeared at a contentious hearing House Oversight and Government Reform Committee last May, soon after news broke that the IRS had targeted grassroots conservative groups for special scrutiny as they sought tax-exempt status.
At the hearing, Ms. Lerner made an opening statement asserting her innocence of any wrongdoing, then sought to invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. She declined to answer questions from committee members and some Republican members objected, saying she had waived her right by making the statement.
The committee now plans to revisit the matter on March 5, according to a letter from House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) to her attorney.
William Taylor III, Ms. Lerners attorney, did not immediately comment. He has said repeatedly that she did not waive her rights by asserting her innocence.
The committees move could add pressure on Ms. Lerner to cooperate with the panels investigation. Or it could accelerate a possible legal clash. . .

She would not be prosecuted even for Contempt of Congress.
She could tell them she thinks they're all a bunch of homo fascists, spit on the floor and walk away.
Obama has assured us that the IRS is free from corruption and that no laws were broken.
So Lois Lerner has nothing to fear if she testifies.
That is a key point. When the DOJ is corrupt and lawless, Obama Regime functionaries are immune from the threat of Congressional action. In fact, to a significant degree, the entire legal system is now tilted to protect favored political or ethnic classes. Obama could have Issa hauled off and sent to Gitmo and, literally, no one could stop him.
