Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is due to decrease the size of the U.S. Army to its lowest levels since before World War II, The New York Times reported on Monday.

He’s due to unveil the new budget plan on Monday. Among his plans: Reduce the troop level in the Army from its high of 570,000 — the number recorded just after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on American soil — to 440,000 or 450,000, the smallest since 1940, The Hill reported.

“You have to always keep your institution prepared, but you can’t carry a large land-war Defense Department when there is no large land war,” one senior Pentagon official said to The New York Times.

The troop reduction comes as the White House is going forth with plans to withdraw most of the U.S. military presence from Afghanistan before year’s end.

Yet at same time, Obama is growing the size of Homeland Security.

He sees his threat to power will come from the inside, not from without.

We are warned

Hey, let's shrink Hegel's pay, expenses, perks and pensions to pre-WWII levels.

That would be fair, right?

“when we lost the next war, and an American boy, lying in the mud with a [Chinese] bayonet through his belly and a [Muslim] foot on his dying throat, spat out his last curse, I wanted the name not to be MacArthur, but Baraq Hussein.”

No he's not, he's just following orders from the CiC.

Shrinking the Army to the size it was pre-WW2, when the population of the US was 125 million instead of today’s 300 million. Is really making it 1/3 as small on a per capita basis.

Well since the regime has “fixed” the economy and unemployment (at least official stats) is no longer a problem, obviously there will be plenty of jobs for ex-GIs.

We knew who Chuck Hagel was, before he was rammed down our throats.

I'm surprised he's not closing the military outright.

This really puts the squeeze on the officer ranks.

Its an ‘up or out’ system already. Now the number of slots to move ‘up’ into will be reduced.

The only officers who make it through the promotion gauntlet will be the ones who are pure as the wind driven snow, having never stepped out of line or tested the system in any way. No risk takers need apply...just yes men/women.

And I guarantee one of the pre-requisites for promotion will be slavish devotion to the new gay policies and notions that your average woman can be a Navy SEAL. I can see officers at the War College eschewing papers on troop maneuvers, and writing political science studies on the benefits of gay artillerymen.

Yet at same time, Obama is growing the size of Homeland Security.

“Weneed a National Security Force, just as big as the millitary”

So people thought that this was impossible due tot he fact that they would have a lot of growning, but didn;t realize that if you shrink the one the amount of growing for the latter would be reduced....

Shrinking the military makes it easier to identify and retain those who are loyal to the regime and head off a mutiny of Constitutionalists.

Interesting that the weapons on the logo are of soviet origin, not American.

No matter where they were manufactured we have the Constitutional right to own them. :-)

“Yet at same time, Obama is growing the size of Homeland Security. He sees his threat to power will come from the inside, not from without.”

There is the real story in all this. All the excuses for cutting DoD are being applied to DHS.

Still the same land mass.
