That's an average day in the Taiwan Parliament.
Well, yeah, but, why not this as inspiration?
The flames kindled on the Fourth of July, 1776, have spread over too much of the globe to be extinguished by the feeble engines of despotism; on the contrary, they will consume these engines and all who work them.
—Thomas Jefferson to John Adams, 1821. ME 15:334
LOL ...
Gotta remember that guy whenever any of us dont feel like getting involved because we are “too busy”.
Good grief, now we have Tatar Derangement Syndrome on FR.
“...now we have Tatar Derangement Syndrome...”
Where have you been? We’ve always had TDS here.
The Priests on the ground there need to be considered for Sainthood. Not even remotely joking.
For most of the “peaceful” standoff, they had a rotating detail of 5 of them that would stand between the police lines and the protestors lines. Even when the fur was flying.
Not sure what they feed their Priests over there, but they are made of some stern stuff.
Just a general question for all:
Will the Poles intervene? Western Ukraine has a lot of ethnic Poles. Boundary lines have seesawed back and forth for over a hundred years.
If Russia tires to invade, will the Poles enter Western Ukraine? There are many old scores to settle.
Now that you mention it ... that quote from Thomas Jefferson may have been the basis for a dream that came repeatedly many years ago or to be exact forty years ago. Dream was similar to quote.
I hear all three of them get together for coffee and croissants every other Tuesday.
That is way west (Lviv)
About 1/2 of Ukrainians are ethnic Russian. Ukraine west of the Dnieper historically was part of Poland/Lithuania. It was only absorbed into Russia at the time of the Partitions of Poland just before 1800. Lviv/Lvov didn't go to Russia, but went to the Austrian Empire, only going to Russia after WWII.
Ukraine east of the Dnieper was conquered by Russia in the 18th Century as the Tatars were gradually pushed out. That's the part of the country that is more comfortable with Mother Russia than the EU.
the tug of war over Ukraine, between western Europe and Russia, by direct pressure from the two external sources (or some element of them) and within the internal divisions in Ukraine, aligned in one direction or the other, is actually centuries old
it has included armed conflict within Ukraine as well as over different parts of what is now Ukraine, as well as contributing demographic mixtures that still harbor, culturally, the scars of those conflicts and divisions
the current activities of Russia and of western Europe have lifted up those inside Ukraine who are playing on different elements of the internal and external tug of war
Ukraine needs a mass movement that seeks to unite the people of the Ukraine in a pupose of NOT any longer
being a party to the tug of war between Russia and
western Europe
without it, temporary periods of peace are likely to be no more than the temporary ascendency of one side of Ukraine’s division over the other, for awhile, but not permanently
So roughly 50% of Ukraine is comprised of George Soros. That’s almost in the league of Chuck Norris.
America needs to take the Ceaucescu challenge.
If Poles do that, then Poles haven’t learned one single thing from history. Partition of Ukraine in 17th century was followed by Polish partition in the 18th. Russians will not be stopping with Ukraine but will proceed to take Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and then Poland. From what I’ve seen, Poles have that realization as well and they are one of the closest European allies for Ukraine.
I’m praying to God that the rebels are already thinking about securing the border as the supply line, just in cast this drags on
It might be best if Ukraine was partitioned.
Thank You ...
