Ted Cruz assails fellow Republicans senators for 'trickery'

Beaumont, Texas (CNN) - Sen. Ted Cruz accused his own Republican leadership of “trickery” in trying to force a “show vote” on raising the debt ceiling last week, warning Republicans will get “clobbered in the polls” for not standing up for principle.

"What Republican leadership said is we want this to pass, but if every senator affirmatively consents to doing it on 51 votes, then we can all cast a vote no and we can go home to our constituents and say we opposed it. And listen, that sort of show vote, that sort of trickery to the - to the constituents is why Congress has a 13 percent approval rating.

In my view, we need to be honest with our constituents. And last week, what it was all about was truth and transparency. I think all 45 Republicans should have stood together and said of course not.,”

. . .

“Go back to those Senate lunches. I - I won't identify anything, but I'll - I'll tell you several people raised a question just like you did there - why are you trying to throw five Republicans under the bus and make them vote for raising the debt ceiling?

And I'll tell you my response. My response is I don't want to throw any Republicans under the bus. I would like to see all 45 Republicans stand together and actually do what we tell our constituents.”

. . . .

“As a human being, I can't control what they say, how they behave. I can control what I do. So every interaction that I have with every senator, Republican or Democrat, is consistently civil, courteous, respectful, treating them with - with the dignity that they deserve, “ replied Cruz.

Trickery is putting it very mildly. I prefer treachery.

Oh, boy. Ted’s not making a lot of friends.

Good for him! Expose the whole lot of the frauds!

Of course, he does so at his peril; but that is precisely why he is to be respected.

This is solid campaigning against Cornyn without violating that collegiality thing by naming names.

Mr. Cruz is it going to be invited to any more closed door caucus meetings. At least not as long as Quislings like McConnell hold the gavel.

Senator Cornyn: Another sad example of why there should be term limits for “Public Servants.”

(Sorry to tarnish your former impression of me.)

I think Cruz is making lots of friends; just not in D.C.

Republicans will get “clobbered in the polls” for not standing up for principle

implying that the democrats are more principled so they will defeat republicans?? GMAFB If republicans lose it will be due to voter/ballet count fraud and illegals and the lazy uneducated voting for democrats as to keep getting welfare.

Fine by me, seems that people who end up going to too many of those meetings end up with RNC Lobotomies...

Supposedly, the gossipy old women of the Democrat media natter away that he is so unpopular with the “in crowd” of RINOs that he has to eat alone in the Senate cafeteria. I’ll bet he enjoys that. I know I would, because I’d throw up if I had to dine with bastards who lie to the people for a living.

Yes. This is exactly what they do. They can then point to their 95% conservative voting record when the votes didn't mean a thing.

I do get the feeling that Ted Cruz got to DC, wouldn't be part of what's going on, and decided to tell it like it is for his six years in the Senate.

It could get real interesting if a few more Cruzers get elected this year.

There is something about a guy who is a camera hound and has a $2000 haircut. Have you ever noticed how much Cruz looks like the actor/comedian Bill Murray? Probably both just as serious about what they say.

I’d say he treats them with more dignity than they deserve, in light of the way they treat him and especially in light of the contempt they display towards the people who put them there. They act as if they think they’re some hereditary aristocracy.
