John Dingell, the longest-serving member of the United States House of Representatives, is considering not running for re-election, according to a report in the Detroit News.
Dingell, who represents the Ann Arbor area along with areas of Wayne County, has run successfully 29 times since 1955. The 87-year-old Dearborn Democrat recently broke the record for the longest-serving congressman in history.
According to the report, Dingell is considering retirement. His spokesman, Christopher Schuler, states Dingell is doing the same thing as he has always done before running for re-election, which is determining how to best serve his constituents.
The News states his wife, Debbie Dingell, might be a possible replacement. State Sen. Rebekah Warren, D-Ann Arbor, is also mentioned as a possible successor.

His wife is considering running because 81 years in a single family's hands just isn't enough for the Dingell empire.

Debbie is quite a bit younger, she could keep it going for a while longer. I like Paul W. Smith on WJR, but He has Debbie on waaaaay too often.

The grim reaper will probably retire him before he decides.

Shortly before the beginning of the decline of Detroit.

“Michigan voters are really stuck on stupid.”
And it’s Ann Arbor. They’ll elect a younger doppelganger.

I've had the extreme misfortune of having
BOTH of these jackasses as my 'Representative'.
Although I jettisoned Conyers in the last redistricting, the office -- the same building that my baby doctor occupied 60+ years ago -- still has the Congressional seal on the door.
"Honorable", indeed...

Yeah, but they probably have five times the amount of cemeteries than everywhere else, all full of democrat votes... and they vote early and often.
