Its been so long that we should put this in 4-inch headlines: Pay raises are back.
In Dallas-Fort Worth, wages and salaries rose 3.5 percent last year, the strongest showing since before the recession. The increase was almost three times higher than the previous years and much higher than the U.S. mark.
Dallas easily ranked No. 1 among the nations 15 largest metros, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Raises in D-FW were more than 1 percentage point higher than the high-flying Silicon Valley region.
Its risky to read too much into a single time period and data set, but this doesnt feel like a fluke. The local economy has been solid for several years, with D-FW consistently among the leaders in job creation. Many top local companies have been crushing it, including AT&T and the new American Airlines. Local real estate prices are soaring, too.
The question was when would all that momentum start trickling down to regular workers? Well, that moment has arrived for the majority of employees, at least those in the Dallas region.
But note one important caveat: All pay raises arent equal.
Many in North Texas are receiving little, if any, pay bump, while others are seeing double-digit gains.
In general, oil and gas workers are raking it in. Telecom is hot. Professionals are going strong. Low-paid workers in leisure, hospitality and even health care are still getting the short end of the stick. Thats despite some impressive job growth....

No.
Why is that good news for anyone here?
Why should we care to hear the story of a ‘dual’ citizen?
did they give Obama the credit? lol
No.
Liberal editors and publishers only hire liberal reporters
Ahem.....it's DFW.....no hyphen.
If she’s a dual citizen I’m guessing she didn’t sneak in. Or did she take part in the last amnesty?
She came to the USA from her Mexican company who employs her. The company does business in both Mexico and the USA. She's an accountant. She's worked for the same Mexican company for almost 30 years.
She's one of the FEW people I know or who have met who is 99% bilingual. Although she still has her Mexican accent she can understand almost 100% of English, can read and write English very well and can understand MOST JOKES in English.
Writing and understanding jokes in a foreign language are the TWO most difficult skills to acquire in a foreign language. I lived in Mexico City for two years when I was in my mid-twenties and those were the TWO skills that I never did get down very well.
So who asked you to respond to me or to read ANYTHING I wrote? I will write what I want and I don't give a rat's what you think.
