Baltimore City, You’re Breaking My Heart

I’m tired of hearing about 12 year old girls being held up at gun-point while they walk to school. http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/crime/blog/bs-md-ci-12-year-old-girl-robbed-20140206,0,5595591.story

I’m tired of saying “Oh Baltimore’s great! It’s just got some crime problems.” http://baltimorecrime.blogspot.com/

From the original article:
"I'm looking at you Mayor Rawlings-Blake.

I’ve received much criticism for calling out our Mayor. I welcome a list of others who should be added to this list, and hope citizens of this city hold them accountable as well. But a Mayor accepts that position because she feels she can make things better for a population, that she can tackle tough problems, that she can work with others in her team to make progress, and shift gears when things need to change."

Take a guess.

Yep - you got it!

Its not just Baltimore. It’s Maryland in general, at least on the western side of the Chesapeake Bay.

Harry Nilsson wrote a song by that name:

You're Breakin' My Heart

If you ignore the little things, you encourage worse things to happen.

It is astonishing that people still argue against "broken-window" crime theory, given the amazing turnaround of NYC under Giuliani and Bloomberg. And especially since the next few years there will probably give us a classbook demonstration of how to reverse the process.

Casting a pretty broad net, aren’t you?

Maryland has 8 congressional districts; all but one are Democrat seats. Guess which part of Maryland has the lone Republican lawmaker? The eastern shore of Maryland (which includes a small slither of land mostly on the western side of the upper portion of the Bay).

The Maryland General Assembly is so totally dominated by Democrats that a smattering of Republicans here and there (mostly in the west and north) are of no consequence. Again, the eastern shore is pretty solid Republican. So as I stated “in general” the western side of the Bay is the problem.

Most of the people I know in Maryland are leaving the state. One of them are a liberal couple that are fed up with taxes; they moved to Florida last year. That’s how bad it is.

Never been to Baltimore myself, but here in Texas, the image called to mind when somebody mentions it is that of a city whose heyday was around 1850, and which has been slowly deteriorating in the elements ever since. Almost as if it died about the same time as Edgar Allan Poe.

Absolutely nothing in the subject article serves to contradict that impression.

I've never heard the following words:

"Hey! Why don't we go to Baltimore?"

that weren't followed by the response:

"What? Are you a crazed loon? Whatever for?"

Here we see that someone is calling a spade a spade. In general, political correctness stops people from condemning black gang violence, or the whole black ghetto culture in general. Since people are afraid of being called racist, it’s difficult to have an honest discussion about the urban underclass, feral young men, etc.

And, we can’t effectively deal with problems such as crime, because of no snitching codes of honor and such. Time and time again, we hear of ghettoviolence and shootings, but, police arrive and nobody saw anything, nobody can testify as to what happened, nobody can identify crime suspects. So that, criminals just don’t get ppunished for their crimes.

I know how bad it is.

My kin have been here since the 1600s.

I love my mountains.

I’m not running.

That’s exactly what they hope we’ll do.

No retreat.
No surrender.

I wish the eastern shore would split off from the rest of Maryland. We spend a lot of time there.
