Laura Ingraham battles George Will as conservative civil war over immigration intensifies [VIDEO]
Daily Caller ^ | 02/10/2014

Conservative commentators Laura Ingraham and George Will can usually be counted on to agree on most issues, but on “Fox News Sunday,” the two sparred over immigration reform, an issue threatening to rip apart the uneasy alliance between the traditional and libertarian wings of the Republican Party.

Fox host Chris Wallace began the discussion — which also included AP reporter Julie Pace and liberal commentator Juan Williams — by noting that Republican leadership seems to be rethinking the wisdom of partnering with President Obama on comprehensive immigration reform. Many conservative bulwarks — including the Wall Street Journal — argued that avoiding immigration reform would hurt the economy and make the GOP appear unwelcoming to minorities.

“The Wall Street Journal attacked, in that editorial, talk radio and the people rising up against this, and John Boehner cowering,” Ingraham began. “As far as I can tell, the Wall Street Journal is on the side of Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer, Barack Obama, Pat Leahy and La Raza. Talk radio, for the most part, is on the side of, yes, Heritage, probably other Tea Party-type groups, most Republican senators and congressmen and I think the lion’s share of the American people.”

“So I’m gonna frame that editorial from the Wall Street Journal. I think they should put down their dog-eared copy of ‘The Fountainhead,’ and actually live in the real world where people’s wages are falling,” she said, taking a subtle swipe at libertarian Republicans infatuated with the Ayn Rand novel. She went on to note the “middle ground on immigration is enforcement,” bemoaning a lack of border control and laws that allow illegal immigrants to receive special benefits.

Will claimed that Ingraham’s points are moot due to the country’s particular “need” for immigration reform.

“The welfare state NEEDS its workforce replenished,” he argued. “As the elderly retire, ten thousand baby boomers become eligible every day for Social Security and Medicare. Second, there’s an intense global competition for human capital, and we’re losing out on that. Third, to immigrate is to make an entrepreneurial act. It’s to uproot yourself and perhaps your family and take a risk, and those are the kinds of people –”

At that point, Ingraham felt compelled to interrupt:

INGRAHAM: Do we care about American workers at all? And their jobs, and their wages and their dreams?

WILL: Laura, you’re the one who’s arguing the AFL-CIO argument, which is –

INGRAHAM: They’re for it! WILL: No, but they’re for it with so many caveats they nullify it. INGRAHAM: But why have borders?

WILL: You’re arguing the zero-sum game –

INGRAHAM: No.

WILL: When, in the lives of our children and grandchildren, there are 500 million Americans, they’re all going to be working! Because we’re gonna have economic dynamism, aided by immigration!

INGRAHAM: So the argument, though, leads to, ‘Why have borders at all?’ Why have a border if it’s just about people as widgets, who come in and are workers without really a concern about assimilation, without concern about how it affects people in middle America. I mean, a lot of people who are in favor of [immigration reform] don’t send their kids to public schools, are not affected by illegal immigration at all.

But I would submit that there are people who are watching this show right now who are screaming at the top of their lungs saying, ‘Who is Washington is representing my interests?’ The labor shortage argument that Paul Ryan is making, that we have an impending labor shortage — I think, transparently, it is ridiculous to most people, today. We don’t have participation in the workforce as it is!

WILL: It’s not a shortage. It’s growth we want!

Ingraham later added that, “There’s no will to enforce the border, there is no faith in this administration to do it, and the Republican elites and the Democratic elites agree, and the people are revolting across this country.”

I like Laura Ingraham, I've had a few email conversations with her.

But when the shooting starts, and it will, Laura Ingraham and George Will would be on the top of my list of 'Get-Rids'

...Maybe keep Laura around for a little while...

WILL: It’s not a shortage. It’s growth we want!

Growth in what? We have taxes and regulated all the businesses away that provide real opportunity. You can grow with the governments sole goal is to ensure there is no success.

This is why everyone needs to stop donating to the party and donate to individual candidates. It’s easier than ever to do this with all the campaign web sites now.

The only growth we get from illegals is a growth of welfare!

How does Will expect illiterates that don’t speak English to grow the economy?

I wish I’d heard that discussion. Laura Ingrahm seems to be at her best when a totally insane argument makes her a little crazy. George Will (who I thought had a brain and some intergrity) said we need the illegals because of a labor shortage. HUH?????

Beware of so-called "conservatives" like Ingraham and Will who don't bother to question if the states have ever delegated to the limited power federal government, via the Constitution, the specific power to regulate immigration.

In fact, and regardless of today's PC interpretation of the constitution's "uniform Rule of Naturalization" clause, Clause 4 of Section 8 of Article I, Vice President Thomas Jefferson had noted, in terms of the 10th Amendment nonetheless, that the states had never delegated to Congress the specific power to regulate immigration.

“4. _Resolved_, That alien friends are under the jurisdiction and protection of the laws of the State wherein they are: that no power over them has been delegated to the United States, nor prohibited to the individual States, distinct from their power over citizens. And it being true as a general principle, and one of the amendments to the Constitution having also declared, that “the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people,” the act of the Congress of the United States, passed on the — day of July, 1798, intituled “An Act concerning aliens,” which assumes powers over alien friends, not delegated by the Constitution, is not law, but is altogether void, and of no force (emphasis added).” —Thomas Jefferson, Draft of the Kentucky Resolutions - October 1798.

And if Jefferson was wrong about delegated powers to regulate immigration, then "conservative" commentators like Ingraham and Will can analyze why. But it seems like Fx News commentators almost always ignore the federal government's constitutionally limited powers.

Way back in the LA Jurassic, when George Putnam was smoothing the way for Rush Limbaugh, this argument was already causing fisticuffs in otherwise well-bred drawing rooms.

On one archetypical side, ye olde patriotic blowhard, B-1 Bob Dornan, who was perfectly happy with his Mexicans: cook, chauffeur, nanny, laundress, parlor maid, gardener, stablehand, etc. Olde California Hacienda sort of thing, dontcha know? Couldn't see what the heck the fuss was about. Perfectly nice people, weren't they? What were we? Racists?

As the California deficit inched up past $7 Billion and the state's demography began to change, olde Bob still didn't get it. So Loretta Sanchez went and got it for him. She gave him a smack up the side of his head by stealing his seat in congress with massive, brilliantly organized vote fraud. She carried live legal Mexicans, live illegal Mexicans, dead legal Mexicans, and naturally dead illegal Mexicans. But wait, there was more, each of the aforenamed Mexicans was given a virtual family at virtual address and lo, they all voted for her.* Surprise, B-1 Bob. You lost your job! That of course, was what we had been trying to tell the man for half a decade.

Today's RINOs are of course, the progeny of yesterday's establishment Republicans. They have abandoned the Middle American Main Street Businessman American and his family and business to concentrate on serving their corporate sponsors.

Folks, we got a corpse on our hands. The GOP as we knew it has died. Why TF are we keeping it stuffed, mounted, and smelly in the living room, sort of as Perón kept Evita? Time to clean house.

*All over CA, this is still going on. At least 50 seats in the state legislature won and kept by means of massive, systemic fraud. Think Baltimore/Philadelphia X 10.

50 years into this "immigration" nonsense, I am getting a bit weak and weary.

The RINO/DEMO deal is easy to figure out. An élite managing a peasant economy of service jobs, with manufacturing having been sent to the Third World.

We belong to NAFTA, right? To me that means we should have exactly the same immigration policy as Mexico.

Laura screwed up the deportation response. Kabar had a good graph that would have been an excellent response to Juan.

“George Will (who I thought had a brain and some intergrity) said we need the illegals because of a labor shortage. HUH?????”

The only time that George Will ever got his hands dirty while working is when his pen leaked.

George Will is a typical member of the GOP elite. The jobs that they want to give away to Mexican national illegal aliens are jobs that they consider so far beneath them that they can’t imagine ever doing them.

You know- jobs where you get sweaty and dirty and your coworkers aren’t well connected political hacks.

Your recitation of how B-1 Bob Dornan lost his Congressional seat to Loretta Sanchez is right on the money.

Of course the way it gets told by the treason lobby in the GOP is different, he lost because evil nativist voters passed Prop 187 and latinos (the Great Conservative Future Americans) reacted by voting por la Raza.

One significant reason why California took a hard turn to the left around this time is due to the extremely misguided Reagan amnesty of 1986. The newly legalized Mexican nationals were first able to vote (legally anyway) in 1996, and surprise surprise they vote for big government and leftwing Democrats.

Once Boehner and Ryan and the rest of the GOPe help Obama get the newest version of amnesty forced through the rest of the country will go the way of California. Adios, old America. In the words of one Aztlan activist you’re old, you’re tired, your time has gone and it’s your duty to die and make room for la Raza. Viva la Raza!

El Salvador has 6 million people. Why don’t we bring everyone of them into America. Will it raise the GDP? Yes! So lets do it. This is some peoples logic. Like George Will. Plus he thinks that taking all these impoverished illegals....making them legal will help boost payments into the Social Security Fund.

Keep dreaming!!

They boost nothing by drawing a welfare check and working for cash under the table.

The Mexican illegals are a net 6 billion a year drain on the taxpayers!

Pat Buchanan said something to the effect that when the Latinos are the majority, and they’re the ones making the laws, they’re certainly not going to vote to continue Social Security and Medicare for a bunch of old white people.
