Pat Roberts, 2014's Richard Lugar?
redstate.com ^ | 2/8/14 | midwestconservative

Recently the New York Times reported on the Senior Senator of Kansas, Pat Roberts, who has been in Washington for 47 years in both the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. The article in question alleged that Senator Roberts does not live in Kansas, the Senator released a statement that did not contend that point but mentioned how he had visited every county in Kansas and during that time lived with friends and donor while paying them for the use of their homes. In other words he doesn’t live in Kansas.

Richard Lugar the recently retired Senior Senator of Indiana also lived outside of Indiana throughout his Senate career and this was reported ( by Democrats) several months out from his primary. I personally find this patrician behavior disgusting and there should be a law mandating a minimum amount of time a Senator ( or Representative) have to spend in their home states.

In any event this makes Milton Wolf’s attempt at beating Roberts that much more likely to succeed. Roberts has learned from Lugar’s mistake and has tacked Right in order to secure his final term ( during which he will tack back Left in order to secure his “legacy” as his friend Orrin Hatch has done)

Roberts is now in danger of being the Richard Lugar of 2014, the Bob Bennett of 2014. That is an old long time incumbent who should’ve retired.

To give a good summary 2014 is shaping up to be a good year to beat Incumbent Republicans in the primary.

Lugar, Bennett and Murkowski were amnesty supporters and liberal.

Indiana has elected Obama, Bayh and Lugar so it is not as conservative as KS.

Roberts is conservative on immigration.

Moran is higher in leadership and pushes H1B visas.

I hope Wolf beats Roberts and Kobach beats Moran.

This is going to hurt Roberts. Enough for Wolf to win? Unlikely, but possible.

I hope Milton Wolfe isn’t 2014’s Richard Mourdock.

People in KS don’t know that Roberts has no residence in their state. I doubt enough could be informed of that before the primary, and even if informed, I doubt it would keep them from rubberstamping the incumbent. People in KS are like most of the other Americans stuck in incumbency.

There was a good conservative named Tiahrt who ran against Moran, but KS repudiated him.

Lugar’s successor is a Democrat.

Quite true, and Roberts has gone to considerable lengths to keep his constituents from finding out. They will certainly know by Primary Day. The people of Kansas also think that he is more conservative than he really is. This, too, will change by August.

He still has to be considered the favorite, but Beltway insiders who deceive their voters and vote with the establishment East Coast Republicans don't deserve my vote, and Roberts won't get it.

Milton Wolfe, should he be elected will become KS's Scott Brown, not Murdock.

He'll maybe be able to wrestle the Primary but has no real agenda and I fear as democRATS play rougher rules, not fare so well with deep check on just how conservative he really is - which is not really.

His only agenda is that he's Obama's cousin who is doctor!

I have no real yearning to have Roberts continue in office but think Wolfe's real reason for getting elected is that Roberts has been there too long and,"I'm Barack Obama's doctor cousin who disagreed with Obamacare."

Hardly a political pedigree of working with other conservatives to help turn RINOs out of office!

Nope, Wolfe's almost as bad as RINOs who believe in nominating the "next in line." He's happy to leap frog over many other conservatives who have done much to build our party in KS, in fact, it might be nice to elect someone who has even voted regularly.

Indiana has R supermajority in both branches of legislature, R governor, de-unionized state employees, and passed RTW last year.

Lobachevsky is running against Moron? I live in KS and wasn’t aware of that. That would be great if he replaced Moron.

Hypothetically in 2016.

I think Kobach likes being in his current job though trolling Eric Holder.

He's Obama's cousin?! No way! It's hard to tell from his candidacy, like trying figure out whether or not John Kerry served in Vietnam during his 2004 run. ;-)

Well, it's actually his mom who is either a cousin or second cousin of Barack Obama's grandmother, Madelyn.

Trust me, this is true and that is what spurred him into politics, submitting editorials to various papers, then being accepted as an occasional "editorial writer."

The guy has NO credentials within the state until he found out from his mom that he is a distant relative of Obama.

So far he has never supported any conservative candidate either, shown up at any political rally supporting any conservative candidate or issue - except now his own and asking for money and votes!

It’s shameful anyone would compare Roberts to Lugar.

There are at least 6 GOP Senators to Roberts left running for reelection in 2014.
