If the only jobs that were lost, or hours that were reduced as a result of ObamaCare were voluntary, sure, it would be a good thing.

There are two opposing forces in a modern division of labor society that is free. First, when less work is done, fewer goods will be produced and goods will be rendered correspondingly scarcer relative to the number of workers, and thus the prices will rise relative to the incomes of the workers-i.e. real wages will decline. This principle applies to every reduction in the hours of work, whether from forty to thirty, currently or from sixty to fifty, in the past. Always, less work per worker means less output relative to the supply of labor, and thus higher prices relative to wages, and therefore, a corresponding decline in real wages. The decline in real wages will tend to reduce the amount of leisure chosen

But, secondly, in a modern division of labor, and free society, when there is an increase in real wages due to things like more and better labor saving machines, and also an expansion of the division of labor, and a higher productivity of labor, more and more people have substantial real wealth at his disposal and substantial leisure in which to enjoy it. They are placed in a position in which they can afford to choose additional leisure. And further improvements in the productivity of labor under the division of labor will place still more wealth and leisure at the average worker's disposal and more leisure will be chosen.

The above two forces when combined will tend to produce a stable equilibrium. But government intervention in the economy due to Obamacare that causes an involuntary increase in leisure and less work will destabilize the equilibrium and tend to reduce the standard of living for the average worker.

I hear this question from time to time,

Next time, why don't you also add, that you want them to work, so you don't have to support their sorry asses.

Well, yes. The friend I am usually speaking to is also working. Like me. Not hard to get agreement on that.

I only discourse with fellow workers (and then it is highly limited), it’s my policy.

Why does mom want me to go to school?
Why does dad want me to do my chores.
Same questions.

It’s not the Republicans, it’s people themselves (some of them) ... especially low-wage workers who don’t want to receive assistance sometimes work two jobs. While the financially well-set bureaucrats blather on, the house payment and car payment and all kinds of other payments must be made.

The liberal idea of the American dream is to work part time, collect food stamps and have shitty health insurance. I guess they have to lower expectations since they are destroying the system that made those dreams possible.

Mike Rowe would love that site. I was just reading some email he received after doing a major Walmart commercial that ran during the Olympics. Walmart is promising to spend a quarter-Trillion dollars in the US over the next 10 years.

My answer to Why work? I’m not willing to settle for the crappy existence I would have subsisting on the crumbs some government bureaucrat is willing to let me have. It’s that simple.

It helps that I like what I do.

As an aside here, I find something outrageous about this spin liberals are taking about news that Obamacare will suppress labor. “I have great news for you! You now have 40 more hours of leisure time a week!” said no boss ever while laying off an employee.

(There’s a good reason for that. No boss wants to get punched out in his office)

Whatever happened to Joe Biden’s demand for a simple "three letter" word:

JOBS

Actually, I would prefer it if the writers a Policto and the other left wing blogs would all quit.

Or at least stop working towards the destruction of freedom.
