Leaking hell.The ceiling panels fell in and killed a female driver all because the supports were connected using the incorrect adhesive.

King Willie is not too keen on having his name tied to this albatross in the bay.

from 1.6 to 6.6 billion in the end..

CalTrans outdid themselves this time.

As much as I would like to blame China, in this instance it's the fault of Caltrans. The designer intended the steel guardrail structure be placed on top of caulk beads to form a watertight seal. Caltrans cut corners and changed the plans, first placing the guardrail structure in place and then placing a bead of caulk around the edges. Not a good idea, if you've ever installed toilets or sinktops in a bathroom. It'll work for a while but the caulk will fail, peeling away and allowing intrusion of water.
