Anti-gay demonstration reveals double-standard in Sochi « SI.com

SOCHI — The protest was tiny by any global, urban standard. But the sentiment of the pair of men holding the signs was unmistakably loud.

On a promenade in front of this city’s main railway station, one man held a placard, written in Russian and topped with an American flag, that read, GOD BLESS PUTIN BECAUSE HE IS AGAINST THE SIN OF SODOMY AND GOD BELIEVES IT IS DISGUSTING. Another raised a sign in English, this one surmounted by a Russian flag, with four boldfaced words: HOMO SEX IS SIN.

Protests in and around these Olympic Winter Games are supposed to be confined to a designated zone in the town of Khosta, miles from both downtown Sochi and the Olympic coastal suburb of Adler, and even there only with a permit. Yet under the warmth of the midday sun, with the opening ceremony only hours away, a knot of security guards watched idly nearby.

Apparently, a demonstration in favor of a policy of president Vladimir Putin and his government may proceed with impunity. Never mind that Russia’s recently passed law that bans “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations is supposed to protect children, and any little Yuri or Tania happening by might have easily been moved to ask, “Mama, what’s sodomy?

Interesting this is on si. Are any of you offended at the Google rainbow and the "rainbow colors" that other websites are putting up everywhere this week?

Jim, thanks for not doing that on FR!

There is not a major religion that says that homosexual acts are not sinful and the rewrite of the Christian religion by some of the Protestant Denominations doesn’t change a thing about the truth.

IE: The sign is correct! HOMO SEX IS SIN!

Watching the opening ceremonies.....so far ALL about homo rights!!! Literally, NBC cannot leave it alone. I knew they would ruin it. Interview with Obama coming up, I am sure he will continue harping on the homo crap. What a disappointment!

I wonder if the BBC or Canadian coverage is any better.

I hate what NBC has done with the Olympics, it was much better on ABC.

Yes, thanks Jim for being a refuge from the propaganda. And I salute the Russians for making a strong statement as a preemptive response to what some Obama-approved athleters are going to pull.

(To answer the question-I live my life being isolated from popular culture. It brings great peace of mind, and by reading online and traditional books, especially the available plethora of free ones no longer under copyright, I can always be entertained, educated, and stimulated, never bored. Just finished reading-available free online-the memoirs of Maurice Paleologue, last French ambassador to the court of Imperial Russia. I’d never heard of the guy, stumble across the book from another subject I was hunting up, and found his writing to be excellent and an interesting perspective on Tsarist Russia, the Russian people of the time-especially the upper classes-and diplomatic machinations during WWI and the beginning of revolution in Russia.)

I’m wondering why one protestor chose the American flag to top his placard. It’s probably not likely, but I would love to learn that it was an American citizen. I wish the Russian people could know that there’s a large minority of Americans who stand with them on this issue, in opposing the sodomite agenda. I’d hate them to think that we’re all godless heathens, the way we used to think of them during the Cold War.

Homos-

In the West the liberal media and politician has allied him self with them. Even so called Christian conservatives are at this point afraid to make any value judgement, and they try hard to stay neutral on the matter. The homosexual community is generally affluent and academically and in their career accomplished, with no children or real spouse to make any accommodations for nor using up their resources and time. Highly organized, very vocal and aggressive, they make a great political ally, albeit they are a bunch of perverts: AIDS/HIV, herpes, gay bowl, pedophilia, high suicide rates etc.

Unfortunately, the so called Conservative party in the US tries very hard to do the neutral tap dance, now that Hollywood and the media have managed to main stream this behavior and to marginalize those that oppose it.

Realize,

The Homo agenda doesn’t have the influence it has here in public education, and even Hollywood doesn’t have the power it has here to shape perceptions. Furthermore (this is ironic), the former Soviet secular nation today has a powerful Eastern Orthodox influence that is growing while in the West you have a secularization happening.

85% of the Russian population is anti-homo, and Putin didn’t get politically damaged one bit by taking the stance he did. People in the West assuming this hurt Putin or that within Russia people see it as they do, are quite off the mark and in reality a product of the liberal mass media in the West. Most of the pro homosexual rallies or events you see in Russia, are funded and organized by homosexual groups in the US, or Europe. If you go back just 30 years, public perception was very different here too, but unlike the US, or Western Europe, don’t expect Russia to slowly slide down into the same perceptions over time as we have here.

SI has been beating the pro-homosexual drum for quite a while now. They took it upon themselves to chastise any athlete that dared speak their mind about homos. No one ever asked who set them up as arbiters of political correctness in sports, or if any readers gave a damn what they thought.

They have had a near constant stream of this crap since the summer Olympics that they gushed over on a cover for being "gay friendly". I canceled my subscription in disgust, doubt they care.

I’m sure Obammy is upset these individuals weren’t forced to air their grievances in a designated “free speech” zone 10 kilometers from Sochi.
