In his new Kristol Clear prediction segment on Morning Joe, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol augured Thursday morning that Sarah Palin might run for president in 2016. I mean, why wouldnt she run? he asked, causing NBC News White House correspondent Chuck Todd to answer what was probably a rhetorical question.
I think its a financial reason, Todd said. To get back into the spotlight. Get the speaking fees back up. You know, theres some question in my mind about [Mike] Huckabees motivation, how much of that is about you know, theres a lot of people who run for president for their careers.
Apparently Todd touched a nerve. Kristol spat out the following in about .02 seconds: Really? Cant we give these people the benefit of the doubt here? Some establishment type runs, everyone says. Oh, take very seriously, Jon Huntsmans running, wants to serve the country. You guys have him on 452 times on Morning Joe and Chuck says, Oh, Jon Huntsman could do it. Hes a governor and ambassador to China. Sarah Palin, Mike Huckabee? Oh, those guys just want to make money!
Some people run for president because they see the benefit: Hey, losing will make me more famous, because of the way this perverted process works, Todd replied. Lets not be naive here.

Fred Thompson will sell you a reverse mortgage.
It depends if you are part of the ruling elite. Huntsman is, Palin isn’t.
They speak out of their own mouths the only truth they know. Todd and fellow travellers are incapable of understanding the Christian, sacrificial values that impel Huck and Sarah.
I guess Chuck Todd must have been thinking of the way Dem presidents and VPs have raked it in from their stay in the WH - Obama is a multimillionaire now (and lives like a billionaire) and Al Gore literally is a billionaire.
But Pataki's a good go along to get along type of political hack, so nobody ever called him on it. Then they'll make it up about Palin, because you are officially allowed to say anything you want about Palin, as long as it's negative.
So now you’re anti-capitalist? Good to know.
Bill Kristol has a show on MSLSD? Maybe the network is trying to turn it’s self around.
Thank you!
Mike Huckabee does not have a “sacrificial” bone in his body! He has far more in common with Slick Willy than with Sarah Palin!
Although I would have advised Thompson not to do those ads, I think it’s a stretch to say HE ran for President to help himself financially. He was already rather well known, not only from his Senate years but also from his many appearances as the D.A. on Law & Order.
Todd is right. Kucinich and Jesse and Sharpton ran for the money.
humble, Fred Thompson didn’t know what a reverse mortgage was until he started doing the commercials. At least that’s what he said in the first ad.
If you say so, I hadn't noticed it.
Check the floor for anything else that fell out of your ass when you pulled that "fact" loose.
Reverse mortgages are probably the safest thing in the marketplace, are only for those 62 and over, are government-regulated and the borrower has to go through counseling before they’re able to get one. Plus, there are NO PAYMENTS made to the mortgage company, freeing up funds for seniors to live. They’re definitely not right for everyone, but what product is?
That would be “F. Chuck Todd”, right? (Or “Eff Chuck Todd” for those in Rio Lindo)...
Oh, there’s my car keys and my wallet! LOL
One and the same.
I’m not a huge Kristol fan, but to give credit where credit is due, I applaud him for coming up with that response as fast as he did. Well done, Kristol!
No one ever said he was stupid, just misguided.
