Greater respect for the NRA. My Day As A “Lobbyist”

NRA-logoI just saw the sharp end of the NRA stick. Last week I had the honor of testifying against Initiative 594 and for I-591 in Olympia, WA. I-594 is a new gun-control bill sponsored by some “out of state big money groups” to add more restrictive universal background checks in WA St. I am sure you know who I am referring to NY? I-591 is basically a counter attack on 594 asking for the current laws to be left alone. Although a fanatic 2nd Amendment supporter in spirit, I have never been involved publicly at this level. I was minding my own business at my computer last Monday when I received a private message from a friend in AZ who is very involved politically with gun rights. Jaci asked if someone from the SAF (Second Amendment Foundation) in Seattle could contact me for some support. Not understanding fully what she was referring to I said sure. Not two minutes later I received a text, email, FB message and a phone call all at once! SAF founder, Allan Gottlieb and Brian Judy of the NRA not only asked me for support as a panelist, but to do so the very next day! I was to make a 90 second statement in front of the House and then the Senate. I dropped everything, wrote my statement and bored my poor husband Charles to tears with listening to and timing me.

With all the pro-gun organizations out there, the common goal should be to further protect our rights. No infighting like the gop-e seems to be engaged in. Thank you 30calgal.

The individuals and groups of the NRA and SAF work their tails off for this one cause.

There's infighting over the NRA on this very site...........There's a number of their detractors here that consider the NRA a "take your money and run" sell-out organization.

More like “take your money and snow you under with mass mailings of every kind.” Most wish the NRA would just send their publications and membership bills and forego the bulk mail snowstorm.

I certainly do.

What I can't figure is how they make any money from my membership. They've spend more in mailings than I paid for my membership. Although I do like the Rifleman magazine I get from them.

I have had a love hate relationship with the NRA for a while, but in my maturity I have come around to their way of thinking.

The NRA has changed over the years, well.

The NRA would much rather pursue their goals with the legislative branch than the courts. This reluctance to go to court is often misunderstood by their allies as lukewarm support of the 2nd Amendment.

If you go to court and lose, you are stuck with case precedence that has to be overturned, a fairly difficult thing to do. Look at the latest court case in Connecticut.

If you go to the legislature and fail to get your bill passed, you regroup and reattack in the next session. Much easier prospect.

While access to modern weapons is constantly under attack, access to concealed carry has never been better. Most of that has been due to legislative action.

Regarding the anti-gun initiative here in Washington, one of the busiest anti-gun groups out here is Washington Ceasefire. This organization is run by one Ralph Fascitelli, who is an immigrant from New York. He acts as if he represents the views of all Washingtonians, always saying “We this and we that” like he had a turd in his pocket. He’s welcome to go back to NY where he belongs; we don’t need his kind.

I wonder if the root word of Fascitelli is fascist?

30calgal’s story shows how important it is for gun owners to join and support the NRA and similar pro gun lobbies. A bill was up in the State of Washington legislature that would make legal ownership and use of firearms more difficult. The NRA & 2nd Amend. Foundation got the word out and recruited a local person who would well present our pro gun views to the legislative committee. Without pro gun lobbies that deliver, not just beg for donations, we do not have a voice.

The NRA gives money to Democrats.

For me, it’s no more complicated than that.
