Anybody that introduces themselves as a “community organizer” should get a punch in the mouth right off the bat.

What? Trader Joe’s isn’t giving in to extortion from the NAACP? What’s this world coming to?

They would rather have a vacant lot than a nice retail grocery such as Trader Joe’s. The activists have made their choice. They prefer blight over a business which is not a black business.

In other words, Trader Joe’s didn’t want to pay up in order to do them a favor

Just another Al Sharpton hustle.

They wanted to hold-up Trader Joe’s for cash payments and other concessions in exchange for just peacefully going away.

They did the same thing to the new hockey arena here in Pittsburgh (and now have their knickers in a twist because they aren’t getting everything they thought they would)

Can't have a Trader's Joe on MLK Blvd., that is reserved for crack dealers and prostitutes!

What a shame. I’m a big fan of Trader Joe’s. They don’t have everything I want but I can always depend of them to give me a better product at a lower price than say Pavilions or Ralph’s -

Yea, why have a store that would be convenient for the area and also provide jobs be of any interest when they can have an empty lot.

I find many communities would rather have ugly abandoned lots than a functioning store. Reminds me of the “No WAWA” signs all over PA every time the company announces it wants to open a new convenience store. It is ridiculous.

The crazy thing about this story is that the neighborhood is a mix of races and incomes (only 25% black). But the local NAACP guys — who don’t even live there — push their way in and make demands. I’m glad that the neighborhood is mad at them and that Trader Joe’s didn’t fall to their shakedown.

Is this part of that “nutritional desert” thing? I thought they were against that...

That was a mistake to go into that part of town anyway. Who advised TJ’s to do such a stupid thing? When’s the last time you saw any profitable business or industry on MLK Blvd anywhere in the US?

This was an attempt at PC BS by TJ’s. I have one near me and they constantly yammer about how many trees it takes to make one grocery bag,(so they sell organic hemp bags) cartoon images on Woodrow Wilson are up promoting different TJ products. Half the staff is gay. Most are covered in tattoos and wear pencil pants. It’s a freak show.

But...the prices are amazing so we go there.

Likely some of the “community organizers” wanted a pay-out to their organizations ala Al Sharpton.

When Trader Joe’s said no, they resorted to union/mafia tactics

I bet these same organizers complain that the area is a “food desert”.

And then they complain about alleged “food deserts” and demand Federal regulations and funding to fix them.

It seemed like the perfect place to create jobs
And there you have the real reason why the Portland African-American Leadership Forum was against it.
These peoples be VICTIMS. Can't be having them work for a living and taking care of themselves.
Then there would be no reason for the Portland African-American Leadership Forum to exist.
