Nanny State PING!
All businesses should be run in politically correct ways, in accordance with ideological purity. For the children.
My kids are in their late 40’s. They still order water when we do lunch......leftover from “the poor years”.
I always just told my kids, “No.” No need to change the menu.
Do you think they should also be required to post the rationale for the removal? “Parents are considered too stupid to select proper meals for their children so a coalition of busybodies and government has decided it for you. If you have any b!tches, please address them to Moo at the White House.”
When I was a kid, about the only time we were allowed to have pop was when we ate out. That was not all that often. But a parent can say NO and have them drink something else. I hate nanny state crap.
Well then they should require a BMI on each child before ordering. It makes no sense that my grandchildren can't have a sprite with their meal because some other kids somewhere are overweight.
The new kids’ menu will consist of the McBroccoli
WELLLL...If I were a parent with a young child, and the restaurant didn’t include sodas with their kid’s meals, I would just buy an “adult” drink, and give it to the kid.
People who don’t own businesses should be the ones who get to run them, because they aren’t blinded by the profit motive. </sarcasm>
Huh??
"No longer makes sense ..."?????
It was always stupid and lazy, sorry. You don't need a college degree to figure out that making your main hydration source carbonated and sugared, would be a pretty dumb thing to do. Water, coffee, milk. Good for go no matter what.
I like to have a soda now and then. I like ice cream floats. I like Strawberry soda. They're treats. That's just me. If people lock their kids into bad habits by feeding them pop or juice or god-knows-what all the time, that's the kids' tough luck and maybe blessing as they figure their way out of it and grow stronger by making smarter choices. It happens a lot.
This is headed toward outlawing soda pop. Or at least making it an expensive luxury.
I won’t feed this crap to my kids, but feel free to feed it to yours. Really not my business. However, I do think I should be able to put together menus for those to whom my money has been redistributed.
BRILLIANT!!!
It’s a great idea if private groups ask individual businesses to voluntarily not serve soda. Let the customers and the businesses choose.
The rebound effect: where a kid is never allowed to consume anything just because it tastes good, and is always forced to eat “healthy” food—then becomes a junk food addict the moment he or she takes charge of his or her diet.
Moderation in everything is key. If kids aren’t taught moderation—and they are not when they are surrounded by orthorexics imposing their absolutism on them—then they have a high risk of becoming obese when they leave that rigid environment.
The fast food joints don’t give a damn - they’ll just be selling soda as a separate “side” to the Happy Meal [which will not include the soda as part of the meal] ...
Why do I think this, you say ???
Cuz the kidz are going to bitch and moan to Mom until she relents and buys the soda “side” for them ...
More profit for the fast food joints - Cha Ching !!!
NO
these places should leave their menus alone
it is only that parents should not make the places a regular habit for meals for their children
in the vein of all things in moderation accepted, an occasional “treat” of a meal at one these places won’t hurt the health of kids whose parents don’t make a habit of it or let their kids make a habit of it
“director at the Center for Science in the Public Interest”
CSPI brought us the smoking bans, now it is time to move along to their next nanny actions. They were empowered by many FReepers that cheered their support for the derision of private property rights.
If it isn’t mandated, it will be banned. What a wonderful utopia we will have!
I hate it that my grandkids will not be able to experience that.
WTF does this paragraph mean?
It's OK to have one sugary drink. but not an additional one?
And by what percentage does it increase a child's chances of becoming obese by 60 percent.
