The Iowa Suppressor Ownership Bill Needs Your Support

Our friends at the American Silencer Association have asked us to spread the word on a pending bill that would allow citizens of Iowa to possess suppressors. As a native of that great state that values liberty, it’s something near to my heart.

Last week, State Rep. Matt Windschitl, (R-Missouri Valley) introduced House File 384 to the Iowa State House. The purpose of the bill is to legalize the possession of suppressors for the law abiding citizens of Iowa who complete the proper Federal NFA transfer process.

Iowa is currently one of only 11 states that prohibit the possession of suppressors by civilians. For a full map, visit the ASA’s website.
Although HF 384 is moving through the General Assembly, it needs your support to pass.

Please contact members of the Iowa State House and Senate TODAY and urge them to support the legalization of suppressor ownership in Iowa. Contact information can be found below:
House: www.legis.iowa.gov/legislators/house
Senate: www.legis.iowa.gov/legislators/senate

TOPICS: Government; News/Current Events; Politics/Elections; US: Iowa
KEYWORDS: banglist; guncontrol; gunmuffler; silencer
Gun mufflers, AKA silencers or suppressors, should never have been included in the stupid NFA of 1932 to begin with. The whole law was unconstitutional on its face.

Well, if you want a quick way to 'clean' your threded barrel tool, here's (http://www.gunthreadadapters.com/) a site where you can purchase a threaded adapter for the end of the tool.

I’ll be starting this procedure here in Colorado. Expensive as heck to do it.
High price to pay for preventing hearing loss while defending my family from home invasions.

I have one for two of my 22 pistols. It took 12 months for the stamp to come back.

Yeah, at the Tanner Gun Show last weekend, I picked a few brains at several of the tables, got some business cards, shook hands and sucked up as much data as I could on this subject.
I’m really looking at the Osprey suppressor for my .45s, but can’t find any threaded barrels for the XDs. Found plenty available for my Beretta 92FS, though.

Have you looked into setting up a trust for ownership of the suppressor?

Just buy a tap and handle to turn it with. 1/2 X 20 is common hardware. 1/2 x 24 is fairly common. 1/2 X 28 is just fine thread. Go easy and lot’s of tap magic cutting fluid.

Yeah. I found a guy in Golden who does gun trusts. I’ll likely go start it up next week on my days off.

I’ve been through all this. You first have to cut down the outer diameter of the barrel to a size correct for the thread diameter you are going to cut. Second, you have to make sure the die (I have all that) is started properly which will require a threat starting insert in the barrel to keep the bore aligned with the die.

It’s just not as cut and dried as buying a die and handle.

Take a look at these guys’ page:

I had them do my Beretta Model 87 Barrel. They did an excellent job.

Sweet! Thanks for the link. I added it to my bookmarks.
Got your FRMail, too. That’s the route I’m going to go for this. Obama’s thugs had BETTER not mess it up.

Thank you. A misaligned threading job means a misaligned suppressor, which means baffle strikes or BOOM.

Here are some easier options:
