McConnell refusing to debate Bevin

Listen to this audio from an interview with Matt Bevin on the Andrew Wilcow show… the interesting part comes in at 13:45 where Bevin is asked about whether McConnell has agreed to debate him and he said no.

Apparently, McConnell’s strategy is to act like Bevin doesn’t even exist. He’s been attacking Allison Grimes on the Democrat side of the contest.

If it’s true that McConnell has refused to debate Bevin, he needs to be called to the carpet.

Well, historic smart money says that this is the tactic he should employ. However, he risks a very serious possibility that he will pi$$ off conservative interests in the state to a frenzy level.

If I were his presumed Democrat opponent, I’d be harping on his own cowardice in facing dissenting voices even on his own side. I’d be doing this night and day in an effort to make him spend money, and time away from preparing for a fight against me. If the Democrat opponent is smart, this is what he’ll do.

Obviously, McConnell doesn’t want to defend his wimp hood in front of the voters. That alone should get him fired in the primary.

2010 primary, then odds-on favorite Castle refused to debate O’Donnell.

Then media (via GOPe) got to work, paint the then tea party candidate as sleazy (IRS leak) and crazy.

Of course..... why would any politician want to Debate the issues in an Election year and present his case to the people whom he represents? This is the 21st Century, just play politics, duck and dodge the people to hold onto your Seat. Hell yeah; that’s the way it should be in this great Republic. Thanks for reminding us.

Why would the dem opponent want Bevin to run instead of McConnell? I’d think constitutional conservatives and disgrunteled dems and independents would be more likely to vote for Bevin than McConnell.

To Dems, it’s about money and how many votes it can buy.

With a Bevin, it’s an automatic bugaboo boogey man (a conservative hater) who they think they could beat easily, probably more easily than a very well funded McConnell because they have the Democrat/Media conservative hate machine behind them.

Even if Bevin didn’t succeed they would force McConnell to spend time and resources away from their candidate.

"Hey, Mitch! Bevin wants to debate you!"

"Bevin? Bevin? I don't see any Bevin!"

McConnell won't do anything that will only turn out badly for him. He's hoping that not debating won't be as damaging as debating would be. He can't win a debate. He can't defend his record. He'll only further damage his chances by appearing with Bevin.
