That is EXACTLY what I foresee; just like college loans. At first it is just an option, then you need backing from the government, then the government takes over and then the government uses these loans to buy votes, punish people, etc...

I foresee, within a few years, the Democrats will try to "nationalize" all IRA's and 401(k)'s - to better help them grow/back them with government support/bullshit/bullshit/bullshit (whatever it takes to get it to pass), and then WHAM!

Money will be confiscated, replaced with phoney IOUs (ala Social Security) and the rest will be history!
