SAN FRANCISCO, CA, January 27, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) At a Mass held just hours before the 10th annual West Coast Walk for Life, San Francisco Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone praised young pro-life activists, but asked them to look around and notice those who are your elders here in this church.
They are the first generation of pro-lifers, said Cordileone. It is no understatement to say to you, my beloved young people, that you are here because of them.
Standing in front of at least 3,500 pro-life activists at St. Mary's Cathedral, the Archbishop compared today's pro-life efforts to those of 40 years ago, noting that the first generation of pro-lifers were told that you were anti-women, that you were standing in the way of women's progress and full equality in society.
Forty years and 57 million abortions later, the very painful truth has come to light. Yes, abortion does hurt women. And yes, there are those who wish to silence any talk about the harm that abortion does to women. There are a few who would even go so far as to call it 'hate speech.'
The Archbishop also tied marriage and abortion together, noting the whole point of marriage....[is] to connect husbands and wives to each other, and to any children they bring into the world.
There is no other institution that does that, that connects children to their mother and father, he said. Marriage is primarily about the children, not the adults, such that you cannot ... be consistently pro-life without being pro-marriage. In God's design, it all fits perfectly together, he said.
Cordileone thanked the bishops who joined him at the Mass, and also thanked his prominent predecessor, Cardinal William Levada, retired prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, who joined the procession and sat in choir during the Mass.
His words cleverly skirted homosexual ‘marriage’ and affirmed man/woman marriage only.
Good job. Totally agee
Governor Andrew Coumo obviously had the good bishop previously excommunicated from the state of New York
i would like to see if any homos marched in san fran right to life. the gay gestapo would be upset.
God bless the lion-hearted Archbishop! The Catholic Church has been TOO SILENT on marriage while promoting the pro-life stance. So many single mothers later, and with traditional marriage on the line, someone finally speaks up.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some did. And if some did, that’s fine as long as they didn’t act out sexually on the street in front of children or anyone else for that matter. However, they are just not consistently pro-life as the archbishop stated.
PLAGAL pretty regularly attends March for Life on both coasts:

I would even accept the statement that pro-life and pro-gay go together, **IF** (big if) by "pro-gay" we meant "pro-identifying people by their humanity, rather than by their misguided conduct."
But pro-gay generally means, in today's political parlance, "it's-OK-to-engage in disordered sexual conduct "it's OK to choose a disordered same-sex marriage," and "pro-same-sex adoption." And that is failing to defend children's right to be raised by a father and a mother. So it is not really pro-childrens' rights.
Any child raised in a MSM or WSW household is being intentionally deprived of either a father or of a mother. They are, by intent, forced to be either fatherless or motherless.
This does not really address the natural conditions under which children develop a confident organic sense of who they are. It would be immoral to accept such an arrangement, which is so often demanded in terms of adults' wants rather than children's needs.
Totally agree, Reformation Fan. See mine at #8.
I agree, Mrs. Don-o. Anyone who wishes to stand up for the rights of the unborn is welcome to the pro-life cause however inconsistent they may be about it in relation to other things. However, we who see the links between being pro-life, pro-natural marriage, and pro-natural family have the right to freely point out that inconsistency in the thinking of those are only pro-life but not pro the other two-thirds of the equation. And hopefully they’re being right about being anti-abortion might cause them to think and pray through their worldview concerning the other issues as well.
if these gays are sincere about the pro-life movement, then i have no objections to them marching in right to life or even given speaking slots. the right to life movement is not a religious only movement. plus if you live in a deep blue area, you don’t have the luxury of picking allies.
That’s part of the problem with our side is that we’ve let leftists define the terminology. Agreeing with what Christ taught about marriage in Matthew 19:4-6 and what has been taught about it for millenia has become defined as “anti-same-sex ‘marriage’”, a concept that was non-existent everywhere until the last 2 decades. It’s like believing in the correct defintion of circle is being “anti-square circle”.
i wonder if the left wing kids at eastside catholic high in seattle will quote this bishop instead of misquoting pope francis.
Atheists and all other-wise liberals are welcome in the pro-life movement as well like Nat Hentoff-

Since liberals claim to be for “human rights” and the “oppressed”, why are there not more Nat Hentoffs? There is no more oppressed group than aborted pre-born children. All other oppressed minorities at least have made it successfully out of the womb and can fight back and change things to improve their lots in life. The pre-born child by definition cannot.
