The problem that American Politics has is not the two party system, but rather the personalities and behavior of people. Attendance at TEA Party functions continues to display arrogant individuals who want only have political influence and use that particular platform; hence the ineffectiveness of a third party.
By that logic all parties are ineffective.
A Tea Party convention will have a certain influence on the GOPe. It will work to stymie the efforts of the GOPe to declare a nominee using a few early primary states. Its purpose is to ensure a conservative candidate is a serious contender without the rules and tricks that the RNC uses to pre-select their candidate.
You have it right but at the same time wrong.
What is needed is a “Secondary”. That is, conservatives under all their various guises including the Tea Party must hold a Secondary. That is, there must be some across the land preliminary conservative vote to select a candidate for the Republican Primary.
The primary will be very different if conservatives can coalesce on one candidate to oppose the presumed GOPe candidate.
A Tea Party Convention as a third party proposition is weakness and is certain to be defeated. Splitting the Republican vote will assure a Hillary disaster
The idea of a Tea Party Convention is not to establish a third party. The purpose is to confirm the choice of a presidential candidate within the GOP as voted for by Tea Party groups.
OK then we have similar thoughts.
My extension of the thought is to have an agreed conservative/Tea Party candidate prior to the Republican Primaries and thus have a more or less united front at the convention
I would hope you are correct, but the human ego is truly a rare thing subordinated to ideology, rather than self-fulfillment. Locally, the personalities have created an atmosphere that only reinforces their own world view and suppresses anything but Paul, which shows their own political ambition.

Yes, this is an excellent idea but the first public meeting must be far before the convention. In fact, there needs to be something public THIS SUMMER for this election first.
Then some other coming together BEFORE THE PRIMARIES. Maybe that would be the convention. We need to stop waiting for the leftist media to choose our candidate, putting on our jackets and gloves, and dutifully going down to vote for their chosen guy. We need to SHAPE THE ELECTION.
By the end of 2014 we need to focus on NO DEBATES UNLESS ONE MODERATOR IS CONSERVATIVE. And get every potential candidate to agree they won’t take part in a typical lib ambush debate. The debates matter more than people think. Saturday Night live uses the debates to the advantage mostly of Dems. We could head them off at the pass by showing the left for once on the ropes.
I had this idea for years, of course I have no idea how to spread it
No reason it can’t be done at the state level too, not just for the Presidency!
Your ideas make perfect sense to me. Some of the challenges to this include the short timing, and the lack of ability to truly ensure that conservative candidates that are not “chosen” by this process will honor the wishes of the conservatives. Ambition for higher office can be compelling, I would guess.
no, because the tea party is not supposed to be centralized. Centralized allows for some political kook and/or hack to claim it as their own.
Without a central leader, the effete media have no one person to attack and they can not protect their NYC delusional worldview.
