On January 22nd renowned gun maker Smith & Wesson joined Sturm, Ruger, & Co., by announcing it would cease California sales of its semi-automatic pistols due to microstamping requirements that went into effect last year. Ruger made the same announcement earlier this month.

*slow clap*
More guns for us!
Yeah but prices will probably increase to make up for the market loss.
Well I am sure the gang bangers won’t like this..
I doubt it will put a dent in new gun ownership for those that want one. Stick it to the man, government regulation at its finest. Ha.
It would be a better headline to read that, along with stopping sales of these guns in CA (presumably only to civilians), that they have ceased all sales to all govt. agencies in CA, as well. Like Barrett.
Guess they don’t need cops because this is the end of crime as we know it.
Okay, Colt, you’re up next!....................
If S&W and Ruger can’t make these pistols economically, you can be sure lesser manufacturers can’t either.
This is a great win for gun grabbers. Look for micro-stamping laws to be added by most of the other blue states.
This is a win for the anti-gun socialists;just like the Colorado recalls mean little if the laws passed by the recalled legislators aren’t repealed.
Every restriction in availability of firearms is a win for the bad guys;it doesn’t matter if the restriction is voluntary or forced.
“Smith & Wesson will continue to sell revolvers, bolt action rifles and its newly-launched Shield and SDVE pistols in California.”
They will still sell plenty of semi-auto pistols in California for a while yet.
Chit
It’s only a day trip to Nevada.
Which means that ‘microstamping’ will also come with the requirement that the design of the firing pin be changed sufficiently so that spare firing pins already made won’t work in the new guns.
This pretty much means I’d never buy a microstamped pistol - ever. I have spare firing pins for all my pistols, replaced the steel ones with titaniums where they were appropriate.
So what California sales are they NOT ending??? I guess they will continue to sell to cops and other "blessed by the bureaucrats" species. If S&M had really wanted to do something, they would have ended ALL gun sales, ESPECIALLY to California government entities.
Or better yet, move to NV....I am!
Uncommon knowledge: Smith and Wesson makes revolvers. Revolvers are not covered in the microstamp legislation. Therefore, S&W will continue to sell revolvers in CA.
Wow. California’s left wins again. Who’d of thunk that of S&W? I hope they refuse to do business with the state or any other government affiliations that use guns.
