How about shooting the does with a bullet or arrow, butchering it, and eating the meat?
While we got tons of deer where I live, here in suburbia that really isn't an option, even if you're confined to using shotgun slugs.....
The pockets of wooded areas are surrounded by houses, highways and residential streets but contain lots of deer which are constantly being nailed by cars.....
Heck, on the south entrance to my sub, there is a wooded area about two tenths of a mile square. On the south side of it there is an eight lane highway. On the west side of it is a hospital and condo complex. On the east side of it is another condo complex and of course mine on the north side.
There are at least 5 deer in there, a family of fox and a roaming coyote.........There have been deer in that small wooded pocket for as long as I've lived here and I've seen the occasional dead carcass on the highway......
