Yesterday afternoon, as I was leaving my office just east of Faggy Bottom, I tuned in Larry O'Connor on WMAL's "Drive at Five." He had Chris Van Hollen on the air and asked him , in short, why retired and disabled veteran's are the only people taking a haircut among Federal employees or retires under the pending budget deal. The answer from Van Hollen was that he, and his fellow DemocRats did not want to cut the COLA on disabled vets and retirees, but that the Pubbies wouldn't agree to a decrease in agricultural subsidies.

I have been searching online for some reaction to this statement but have been utterly unable to find anything. The WMAL website, as of this posting, contains no mention of it.

I would think that there would have been immediate push-back from the Pubbies on this accusation, but nothing. Not a word anywhere that I can find.

I know it was after 5:00, but I swear I was dead sober when I heard this interview. Can anybody shed any light?

It's probably done just out of spite. Republicans cut back on food stamps and unemployment, so the democrats cut the military retirees.
