Dilemma for congressional Democrats: Campaign with President Obama? (And lose?)
LA Times ^ | 1/16/14 | Kathleen Hennessey

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Before President Obama unveiled a manufacturing initiative here Wednesday, he delivered his customary shout-out to local officials, including the Republican governor sitting in the front row, and thanked Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan "for the great work she's doing."

But Hagan wasn't there to hear his kudos, which Obama noted and which was already well-known by her Republican opponents. The senator, who is facing a tough battle for reelection, had been taking heat for days over whether she would attend, highlighting a quandary vulnerable Democrats will face until election day: how to welcome Air Force One to their state without carrying off its passenger's baggage.

The dilemma is a familiar one. Both Republicans and Democrats have struggled with how to use -- or carefully hide -- a president while his party fights midterm elections. Sitting presidents are unrivaled fundraisers and reliable base motivators, but can be problematic for campaigns aiming to court independent voters.

Obummer stuck the knife in and twisted it! I can promise you Hagan will be vilifying him from here on out! She has no choice!

She is going to lose, and then Hillary will lose in 2016.

I wish I had your confidence concerning Hillary. If someone had asked me 20 years ago if a black man with absolutely no accomplishments on his resume and of doubtful citizenship, expounding Marxist principles on the campaing trail, would ever win the presidency, my answer would have been, "are you nuts?".

45%-50% of the electorate will vote rat, no matter what. The Republican's only hope of beating her is putting forth a viable candidate, something that hasn't been done in recent memory.

I see a Christy or a Bush in our future and as a result, yet another loss.

I'm down in the dumps tonight I suppose. My sister passed away this morning, that may have something to do with my pessimism.

However, I do take solace in the fact that she's now with the Lord.

Dems had the same issue with BJ Clinton; many of those that used him lost, while those that avoided him did better. By the time of the Paula Jones scandal (with the Monica Lewinsky sideshow), Clinton was toxic. He cost Gore the 2000 election, and Gore knew it.
