Alex Rodriguez suspended for 162 games

... The ruling, issued by arbitrator Frederic Horowitz, is a reduction from the 211-game suspension Rodriguez was handed by MLB commissioner Bud Selig back in August, but it’s still the longest drug-related suspension in MLB history. For the 38-year-old Rodriguez, it means the loss of an entire season and $25 million in salary. The Yankees will gain $27.5 million worth of salary relief for luxury tax purposes, since the average annual value of his deal is what counts there. That will aid the team’s attempt to get below the $189 million threshold to reset their luxury tax rate, but it leaves a major hole in their lineup.

In a statement, Rodriguez said he would he appeal the ruling in federal court, though the likelihood of a judge overruling the collective bargaining process is believed to be slim....

A-Rod is lucky he wasn't banned for life.

He would have been if he'd bet on any of the games he CHEATED in.

That’s pretty gross. I went to one gym that had safety posters with real photos of some power lifters that were worse (because they were real, not because the injuries were actually worse - the arms weren’t off, but...)

If you happen to know where to find them, please don’t post them. Blechhh.

I’ve seen some nasty pictures. I won’t post them here. They really can’t be unseen.

Big news here is that the MLBPA is basically OK with this. In any case they aren’t going to fire the arbiter or make waves beyond expressing disappointment for a full season + play offs penalty despite not failing a test per the JDA. He’ll be 40 at mid-season 2015 with a surgery on each hip, I think.

Hell with em, if he wants to play he can go to Japan for one year and probably get one hell of a contract.

"A-Rod is lucky he wasn't banned for life..."

For all intents and purposes the suspension is close to a lifetime ban. He'll be 40 when he's eligible to play again. Not impossible but I'd be surprised if there's much demand.

I think NPB honors penalties from MLB. I think he would be down to some sort of independent ball if he was going to do that.

I think A-FROID is gonna take his medicine and sit out 2014. I do not think he will not go to Japan. He only needs a handful of knocks to get to 3000 AND he gets 6 Million dollar bonuses for each HR slugger ahead of him on the all time list he ties. I think his ego won’t let him do anything else. He is tuned into where he rates as an all time great in American MLB......in HIS mind. He rates crap as far as I, and other dedicated MLB fans, am/are concerned. This entire steroid/PED thing makes me sick. I have been an MLB fan for a lonnnnnnnnnng time and remember when the worst that came out was that some all star knocked up some chippie or a drunk got blasted off a bar stool by some player. Oh well, PACR in just a few weeks!!

Now he is suing the MLBPA. Yes, the folks that paid for his side of the arbitration hearing and enabled his 300-400 million dollars made off of MLB so far.

:’) National Lampoon’s “Lives of the Great” had one on Ty Cobb; one claim is that he beat a couple of hecklers to death on a hotel elevator. ;’)

Ty Cobb was a character. Super competitive just by the way he slid in spikes up. Major League baseball just banned players steaming into home plate and trying to bowl over the catcher (trying to tag him out)

******** wikipedia
“Cobb was notorious for sliding into bases feet first, with his spikes high. Cobb’s legacy....”
