Bingo. That has been the economic history of America for at least 5 decades.
Temps were hired in stores and the post office for the Christmas season to handle increased demand.
Temps were hired so regular workers could have time off for Christmas to New Year, often the last 2-3 weeks of the year.
That was a tremendous economic opportunity for college students. I took full advantage of the opportunities to replenish my social and beer budget. Some pre/post Christmas weeks, I would work at 3 jobs, and I was able to insist on good wages.
Of course those jobs that I and others had, went away after Christmas or New Years. That has happened again after this past Chrismas temp hiring.
