OVER HALF JOBS ADDED IN DECEMBER WERE TEMPORARY
Breitbart ^ | Jan 10, 2014 | By Mike Flynn

Friday's December jobs report, showing the economy added just 74k jobs last month was itself a major disappointment. Economists had expected the economy to add around 200k jobs. Looking into the details of the report, however, reveals an even bleaker picture of the labor market. Well over half the jobs added in December, 40k, were in temporary employment.

The biggest sectors to see job growth in December were retail and wholesale trade, in addition to temporary services. Together, these sectors added over 100k jobs, meaning the rest of the economy shed jobs last month. Temporary jobs are obviously just that and don't provide a solid economic footing for those in the field. Retail and wholesale trade, meanwhile, generally offer compensation at the low-end of the pay scale.

Because the growth in retail employment (+55k) occurred during December, the busiest time of the year for the industry, it is unlikely the sector will be able to sustain this growth in the early months of 2014.

Hey, you’re not looking at it right.

In the spirit of Sheila Jackson-Lee, these were “transitional from transitional support non-career non-opportunities.”

Wall St. totally discounts employment/unemployment numbers between mid-November and the end of January the next year.

Most jobs are seasonal/temp that are gone in 6-8 weeks.

Thus, the numbers are unreliable.

Still, 75K jobs added in December [mostly seasonal/temp] is pathetic. Shows that retailer/service industries have no faith in the economy ...

Temping is a HUGE industry in Europe. No one would dare hire a permanent employee due to the very rich menu of government mandated benefits. Plus the laws there make it virtually impossible to ever fire anybody.

Randstad, a Dutch company, is one of the biggest temp agencies in the world thanks to all that.

It probably also shows that the 4.1% increase in GDP reported recently is just bogus.

There is no way on God’s green earth that GDP is 4.1%. And real unemployment, the way they used to count it before Clinton, is upwards of 12%.

Recovery, my sweet Aunt Fanny. There is no recovery.

Add this story to this article from The Hill ==>> http://thehill.com/homenews/senate/194723-economy-will-save-majority-say-sen-dems.

They are playing fast and loose with economic statistics a) because they can and b) because they think it helps them maintain power.

That has to be less comfortable than it looks. Serious underwire issues I would imagine.

Nice errr... holster.

I’d recommend an airweight with a hammer shroud for that, though.

It’s the Obamacare dividend.

It will only get worse.

hammer shroud

Sure thing. That hammer is going to get caught on a projection.

That’s sort of why I have a corollary to that - the amount of temporary/contingent work in a given region (in traditionally non-temporary positions) has an inverse relationship to the state of its economy.

It’s something that I was thinking could just stay over there, but unfortunately it has crept over here.

Have you seen all the suck-ups blaming cold weather? Or saying this is just a one time “tick”? They’ll continue to wash Obama’s basketballs.

The cheapest loaf of bread I can find is $1.49. A year or so ago it was less than a buck. Prices have gone through the roof but they say there’s no inflation. And the republicans sit around trying to figure out a way for it not to hurt when the dems screw them with no lube.

“December jobs are temporary?? What a surprise!”

Bingo. That has been the economic history of America for at least 5 decades.

Temps were hired in stores and the post office for the Christmas season to handle increased demand.

Temps were hired so regular workers could have time off for Christmas to New Year, often the last 2-3 weeks of the year.

That was a tremendous economic opportunity for college students. I took full advantage of the opportunities to replenish my social and beer budget. Some pre/post Christmas weeks, I would work at 3 jobs, and I was able to insist on good wages.

Of course those jobs that I and others had, went away after Christmas or New Years. That has happened again after this past Chrismas temp hiring.
