TX Senate Candidate Linda Vega: Thank you, McKinney Tea Party!. December 17, 2013 at 8:59pm

Below are the questions I was sent and my answers. I look forward to speaking with you in the future.

BIO Linda Vega is a native Texan who was born in Weslaco and whose family roots can be traced as far back as 1813. Linda is the proud mother of two boys.

A graduate of UTA of Austin and the George Washington Law School in Washington, D.C., Linda has previously worked for The Department of Labor. Currently, she is a small business owner of her own practice, The Vega Law Firm, in Houston.

Linda also puts her expertise to work as a volunteer at community events. In addition, Linda is a founding member of Latinos Ready to Vote. Linda is actively involved in the Bonding Against Adversity Advisory Committee and is a North American College Advisory Board member. In 2012, Linda was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the Family Practice Residency Advisory Committee (FPRA).

Primary reason for running

I am running for United States Senate because I am tired of all the gridlock in Congress. D.C. has not passed legislation that has been to the benefit of Texas. In Texas, farmers/cattle ranchers and businesses have not received any prospective economic incentives but those in D.C. have helped themselves and their interests.

I am running because I fear the continuation of a bigger ever-overreaching government that is intrusive into our lives and stomping on our Constitution. I fear those who have become part of the problem, not the solution.

Therefore, I decided to run since, as a successful small business owner and an attorney that has worked with the federal government, I have the knowledge of policy and the entrepreneurial skills to begin on day one to fix a broken Washington, D.C.

The key points she would like to cover in her presentation/ campaign appearance ◾I am a strong believer of the Reagan ideals that hard work is what determines the character of who you are. ◾The success in Texas is because of a strong Republican leadership led by Gov. Perry and a Republican legislature. We must protect what works here in Texas from the Washington D.C. failures. We must protect Texas freedom, businesses, and her citizens from an overreaching big federal government. ◾I am not an immigration activist, as media likes to portray me. I do not want amnesty. I believe we need immigration reform to protect our citizens and our borders. ◾We need to expand our free trade, especially in oil and natural gas, with friendly nations, such as Canada and Mexico, who will free us from hostile nations in the Middle East who want our money but hate us for our freedoms. ◾We need to develop more trade relations based on natural resources because Texas sits at the heart of the natural resources corridor that can create millions of more jobs for Texas and the U.S. ◾Seven of the top 10 cities for future job growth are right here in Texas! We should be proud of our Texas pro-job growth policies. Therefore, as our population doubles in the next 30 years, we need to look toward the future in Texas and create more jobs with an educated labor pool for all Texans. I want to work on that. ◾In Texas, we are free people. I will fight hard with you to make sure Obama and his policies don’t take away our freedom.

The most important information she would like the audience to take away from her presentation

We bear the responsibility of protecting our Constitution, our Bill of Rights and our Texas. If we do not speak up, the Federal Government will come in and wither away at our liberties.

Today, I ask for your support as I promise to work hard to represent the ideals that have made Texas a success. We can rebuild this nation together. One way to start that rebuilding is to bring Texas values of personal accountability and limited government to Washington, D.C. America used to be a land of hope and inspiration, and we need to rebuild that. Washington, D.C. needs a Red State model on education, economic growth, and that of low taxes and pro-business. We need an immigration reform based on labor demands. In addition, we need to make sure that Washington, D.C. stops spending the money of the future generation of Texans and Americans.

There is nothing worse than a parent not knowing what type of future their children and future generations will have. We are on a course of crashing and we need drastically to change it before it is too late. As your U.S. Senator representing Texas, I will put America first and always carry my Texas proudly in my heart. Texas deserves a real limited government Senator.

And any information of special interest

On Monday, U.S. District Judge Richard Leon, in Washington D.C., stated that the NSA program that collects data and spies on U.S. Citizens, to be “almost-Orwellian,” and unconstitutional. The NSA’s spying on U.S. Citizens is against the 4th Amendment, in that the Government cannot collect information about citizens without a warrant.

Judge Leon’s ruling is a rude awakening to remind us that we must not remain silent when the Federal Government robs us of our liberties. Even James Madison, the author of the Constitution, warned us that those in power will slowly take away our liberties while they are in control of our government when he said, "I believe there are more instances of the abridgment of the freedom of the people by gradual and silent encroachments of those in power, than by violent and sudden usurpations."

If the 4th Amendment is set aside by the Federal Government, other amendments will soon crumble including the 1st, the 2nd, and the 10th Amendments. The Bill of Rights was written to work together and give the People of America their basic rights of Freedom. We cannot allow the Federal Government to rob us of these liberties.

As your U.S. Senator, I will fight to protect our Bill of Rights and limit the Federal Government’s intrusion into our lives. I will protect the rights of states to have the power to deny the intrusion of the Federal Government into their states for the sake of surveillance. Texas has the right to protect Texans and their freedom of speech, freedom to bear arms, and their freedom to pass their own laws to protect the Great State of Texas.

This should put to rest the lie, being spread by some who oppose her, that she is NOT for Amnesty.

Thanks for posting. I've hardly seen any updates, at all, from any of Cornball's challengers...which is a bit worrisome, seeing that the primary is not that far off.

And, yes...the goal is to KEEP CORNYN BELOW 50%!!

But she is for immigration reform based on labor demands, whatever she means by that. We need more specifics.

I’m just impressed that you had a car in High School. When I was in H.S. very few kids had a car; only the very affluent. The rest of us were blessed just to have a family car so mom could drive us to school and we would not have to suffer the indignity of riding the bus with the “kids”.

Stovall is my second choice, but, I’ll vote for anyone who faces Cornyn in the run-off. It would be great if Cornyn didn’t make the run-off. I really think that Linda Vega can win. Being a woman and a Latina, she has an edge over Cornyn. My Congressman, Steve Stockman, has a lot of baggage. He’s already made front-page news here in Southeast Texas; problems with the FEC. With Stockman, it never stops.

“My comment #1 is a little ambiguous. Linda Vega is NOT for Amnesty.”

Good to know. This was the main concern for all of us. Between Vega and Stockman and Stovall (and maybe Mapp), we can keep Cornyn below 50% in March and set the table for the year. Cornyn is the first domino. If we force him into a runoff, we can beat him and build momentum for all that follow!

If I could gamble righteously, I’d bet you that WE WILL DEFINITELY force Cornyn into a run-off. What would really be awesome would be for him to come in 3rd in the Primary. Just enjoy thinking about that for awhile. (Chuckle, chuckle.)

Oh, I would love to see Cornyn come in third! That would mean that the people made a sitting senator (and the minority whip, no less) a lame duck in MARCH!

I've made that my battle cry:

"Make John Cornyn a lame duck in March 2014."

Cornyn would just run Independent in the general like he got his pal Lizard Murkowski to do after she was defeated by TEA’s Joe Miller for her AK senate seat.

And then Cornyn would lose again!

While I too would love to see that happen, the thought of him being a lame duck that early scares me. He could do a lot of damage in that time.
