The city of Los Angeles could receive as much as $500 million in grant money over the next decade under a federal program to fight poverty and improve quality of life, according to reports.

Under the Promise Zone initiative, LA and four other regions across the United States have been selected as part of the Obama Administration’s plan to combat high poverty in American communities, White House officials announced Wednesday.

The initiative, which was first announced in President Obama’s 2013 State of the Union speech, is designed to bolster partnerships between local businesses and their community “to create jobs, increase economic security, expand access to educational opportunities and quality, affordable housing and improve public safety,” according to a statement.

KNX 1070′s Pete Demetriou reports five specific neighborhoods will be eligible to receive federal funds: Pico-Union, Westlake, Hollywood, East Hollywood, and Koreatown, which all share ethnically diverse and economically challenged demographics.

Sounds like he snaked that from Herman Cain—Opportunity Zones. 909 as opposed to 999

And the “Promise Zone” winners are:

San Antonio, Texas; Philadelphia; Los Angeles; Southeastern Kentucky; and the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.

Import millions of poor Mexicans, subsidize them with federal taxpayers money, register them to vote as Democrats, rinse, repeat.

Just think: Solyndra, one company, appx 1200 employees, received $535 MM in a grant, all at one time for their scam.

LA will rec $500 over ten years. $50 million a year. That ain’t spit. Especially when a maximum of 20% of it will actually go to anything of civic value and not be stolen.

Love how our money is spent. I think that $6.50 per resident will go a long, long way towards helping the underpriveleged. Illegals.

Doesn’t look like those towns will help black people as much as other people of color and even at that, it is business that will gain the most.

Yeah he’s taking the free market ideas of Herman Cain, Rand Paul, and Jack Kemp and turning them into taxpayer funded money handouts.

LOL! Create and exacerbate poverty for 5 years and rain money on the areas you’ve wiped out. What is the demographic breakdown by race in these areas?

What is the demographic breakdown by citizenship.

That is the question.

While many here brand liberals as “stupid”, I’d bet that each of these 5 Promise Zones has a carefully calculated purpose. If not vote buying, then crony payoffs.

That's an artifact of a past age.

Now Caliph Baraq dispenses gravy as he sees fit.

Rand Paul speaking in Detroit on a free market idea to help Detroit and other cities to bail themselves out.

There’s some weed and doritos libertarian stuff at the end but the economic stuff is sound “Economic freedom zones”. It all needs to go national for everyone but the economically devastated areas are where they can be proven.

Promise Zone my a**. “Promise to vote for me” zone more likely. The DIMs/LIBs couldn’t figure out how to “make jobs” if they had to under the penalty of death if they failed.
