The Republicans seem to rather think of themselves as being entrants as part of a popularity contest than doing what is the only point of them being in Congress in the first place. They've already earned the opprobrium of the Democrats and their ilk in limiting the unemployment benefits that expired this past Saturday and now have capitulated once again in agreeing to having the benefits extended. Do you think anyone is going to be grateful towards Republicans, embrace them and their party platform in 2014 for doing what is essentially an act of cowardice, frightened by how the headlines would somehow ameliorate their chances in 2014 as a result?

If as what Obama had recently announced that 2014 will be a great year for the economy, why then the need to extend the benefits at a cost of a billion dollars a week, when instead of the government, the economy would insure the income that the jobless have currently failed to secure for themselves?

What I’m puzzled about is how the “Senate” controls this when it’s a spending issue that by law has to originate in the House? Not that Boner would do anything to reign in spending.

After their “bi-partisan” budget deal that democrats agreed to and praised, that INCLUDED ENDING unemployment benefits, it did not take long for them to pull that football away from the hapless GOP Charlie Brown

“If this doesn’t get fixed, it will hurt about 14 million Americans over the course of this year,” Mr. Obama said.

And why Mr President is this necessary? You have been President for 5 years now. Where are the jobs? Oh that is right, Obamcare caused thousands to lose their jobs or to become part timers. Easy to see why you would want to see unemployment extended. I think most Americans would rather have a job then a government check.........

Be real...You simply have to extend these benefits. The problem is the terms of the system....i.e., you have to find a job in your field with a comparable salary.

HOWQ the system works needs to be revised. The old terms simply can't stand anymore.

The Republicans are morons. First they cancel funding which hurts them greatly by those that held jobs, then they pass it anyway which gives Zero a win.

If I did the math correctly that is 8k for each unemployed person. That is about 2500$ a month.

The Republicans should offer to extend unemployement for 3 years if the Democrats will agree to repeal the ACA.

Serious how about a bit of statagy here.

The economy would probably actually really improve if they did this.
There is a big pile of gorrila s*** on the floor!

The large part of the Senate GOP voted against this.

There is a complete disconnect between all the howling about how good the economy is and why we need to YET AGAIN extend unemployment benefits.

It also seems to me that 99 weeks is just 5 weeks shy of TWO YEARS. You could finish an Associate Degree and retrain for an in demand job in that length of time.

Zero's comments about how unemployment insurance helps stimulate the economy is literally one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. He would fail a high school economics class if he answered that on an essay about how unemployment affects the economy.

What’s really going on here is that “Unemployment Benefits” are being turned into a long-term entitlement. This reminds me of a routine that the late comedian Sam Kinison used to do about world hunger -

“But I’m not trying to make fun of world hunger if in fact I think I have the answer. If you want to stop world hunger, stop sending them food. Don’t send these people another bit folks. You want to send them something, you want to help? Send them U-hauls. Send them U-hauls, some luggage, and send them a guy that goes Hey, we’ve been driving out here every day with your food for the last thirty or forty years, and we were driving out here, through the desert and it occurred to us that there wouldn’t be world hunger if you people lived where the food is! Get out of the desert! You live in a f***ing desert!”

Brain damaged voters in this country, if they have jobs, have no idea what’s going on in this country unless it’s mentioned on reality TV or American Idol or whatever those stupid shows are called.

Obama gets away with this dogma while Republican politicians like Peter King brand Cruz something akin to a traitor.
