ATLANTA - A former aerospace executive who slapped a crying toddler on an airplane and used a racial slur against the child, who is black, received an eight-month prison sentence on Monday for an incident his attorney blamed on his alcoholism.
Joe Rickey Hundley, who apologized in court to the child's mother, was accused of striking the 19-month-old boy in the face on board a Delta Air Lines flight from Minneapolis to Atlanta last February.

good..
what sane person physical abuses a baby or any child ???
If this is his first offense, that’s an excessive sentence.
“Hold muh vodka and watch this . . .”
Maybe he should audition for a new job at MSNBC when he gets out
not his 1st offense. his sanity is probably frayed.
IIRC, he was flying to go unplug his son from life support.
not an excuse, but could be a mitigating circumstance.
Where did you see it’s not his first offense?
In another article it was cited by the judge.
lulz
In Spain, this is part of child-rearing. Maybe the guy’s Spanish.
There is slapping, and there is slapping. They don’t say which one he did.
In my family, it is normal to thump kids on their heads, softly at first, and then with greater force until they notice you. Once you have their attention, you talk to them and explain patiently what will happen to their desserts, tv, and electronic gadgets for the next week if they don’t behave.
Of course we can’t do this in public, so we just give them the “wait until I get you home” glare and hope they notice.
He was on probation for a previous assault as well.
Is Al Sharpton aware of this????
Yes, it seems excessive. I assumed he would get probation and a fine.
Oh he must have just snapped sounds like he was very stressed.
And, he got fired after this incident.
he has no business slapping a crying infant
race nothwithstanding
and if he was indeed drunk, they should not have let him fly
I think that a jail sentence is appropriate, and eight months may be a reasonable time (depending on the specifics of the incident, which I can’t possibly know or comment on).
certainly some jail time or some substitute punishment sounds quite in order. we can’t have adults going around slapping other people’s babies
Would the punishment have been so severe if it had been a white kid?
Slapped a baby? Yay justice system!
